Honda e
i continue number crunching (lets face it, i've run out of project stuff)
an e costs, i reckon £307-460 pa fuel based on 8 to 12k miles
servicing is cheap, there is a service pack at £645 for 5 years so £129 pa
VED £0
so 12k pa excluding stuff like tyres will set you back £690 pa
a civic 1.5T doing 40mpg will cost £2.2k pa assuming £250 pa service, £150 tax and no increase in either. i think it's highly likely pure ICE will be taxed more heavily in the near future, based on recent historical trends.
over 10 years that is £22k vs £6.9k
add in depreciation, the e worth nowt because the battery is ****ed and the civic £1k
a near used civ 2020 costs £21k vs £25k for ex demo e
so TCO
Civ £22k + £20k deprec = £42k
e £25k + £6.9k = £31.9k
and that is optimistic for the petrol

Aside from 27k+ purchase price..
With the introduction of a later model, especially with range development and, also ironing out issues that haven't surfaced yet (let's face it, it's a concept. Concepts rarely have a smooth first couple of years.)
Probably will affect depreciation with the birth of a Mk2. Plus the cost of it. The motor media have jibbed its price and I have to agree. Puts it to the middle class market on purpose... Oooh the cheek of Honda!! Wanting a piece of the Tesla market. Sort of.
The more I look at the interior, I think its got too much going on and a distraction with multi screens. I accept that if you buy anything new these days, it will shove screens in your nose to help forget the numb drive ahead. The e takes it to the next level. But it's supposed to be a fairly good drive. Those screens I guess are fun for a few weeks... Long term though, not so sure for me.
I think in 3 years, when they are worth circa 15k, it's a better buy with extended warranty.. Maybe!
Despite my views on it, I'm a bit torn as I actually like it.
Forget the money calcs, just buy one. Life is far too short to worry about money.... Far too short.

I agree, I just want an easy transaction not this tier 4 bollox. And a blue ideally. Nothing close to me yet and not in a rush really, we will be locked down for the next 3m
they are like a go kart crossed with a dodgem, one foot mode is ace, they are incredibly easily to peddle along but the range is shit and if that bothers look elsewhere 100%
It'll be the main car for us with a CRV or something like that for longer trips and the S2 for fun in the sun
I agree on price, they have created a unique prop of a mini luxo barge which handles. Plus it's not fwd. Or a Renno.
Matter if time for me

A better Honda comparison would be with the Jazz, as they are sof a similar size. A Civic is a size or two up.
From Honda, an e works out at £29,660
A Jazz EX with all the toys is £22,185
Jazz apparently does 61mpg (yeah, right) so I suspect you'd get a long way before costs equalise.
The more important comparison for Honda is with things like the the electric Mini, Fiat and Peugeot, even the Corsa.

anyway, the fag packet maths stands up, they are very cheap to run and anti ICE evangelists will only gain more power in the coming decade
i make no bones about it though, its a niche value prop that Honda.. not an only car unless you live in Richmond, have a drive and never stray beyond the M25
a corsa is a niche prop too, must have had a lobotomy and ****in hate life
. Truly uninspiring shit and basically its a pug so will prob electrocute you in the rain and not last 5 years.. i know, i have owned vauxhalls and PSA tat
Update:
500 miles has cost £8 (with credit to the Agile Octopus tariff and my Ohme smart charger).
The ceramic covering at £200 is good. Easy to clean. That said worse than any car I've owned for the dirt gathering in the sills.
Little tricks:
front wipers have to be 'parked' via wiper controls you can't just fold them out (or back). RTFM about page 396 onwards. Rear - bog standard manual.
The optional extra rubber mats come with a 2 x little twist catches onto retainers that are fitted into the floor. Two each side. A dealer fit option. Just a thought if you are thinking to DIY some mats.
