As for performance, since BMW wanted to use a narrow tire for efficiency but not sacrifice on performance, they needed to use a much taller tire than most would expect on a car of this size.
Have you seen them? They are like that for rolling resistance/aero (not the good type of aero!) reasons. The tyres are 155/70R19 (and for the facelift there is an optional 20" wheel with 155/60R20 tyres). Wheels are 5J for god's sake!!!

i could basically rule out everything on the market quite easily ans just buy a diesesal e class with small wheels

Those tyres belong on a bicycle.
tbh that pic is fairly scary
about as appealing as genital warts
the only review i have from a mate is a Tesla 3, he loves it, he traded a Golf R for it and says it is better in every way but it was a lot more money i believe.. 70k Canadian dollars optioned up? with the £ almost worthless now is not the time to buy a yank tank i think

IIRC Norwary is one of Tesla's biggest markets, if not the biggest - they love them as in Norwary you pay a bhp tax for internal combustion, ie a few month old BMW M4 will cost about £125,000 and a 4 year old £75,000 so compared with other cars, Tesla's are quite cheap to buy and even cheaper to run!

they are way ahead on this stuff
yes, initial purchase tax is based on power (hence why the noggies used to love diesel and why they were masters in chippping - buy and pay the tax on a 200bhp diesel and then chip it to 300bhp)
Tesla's dont have the tax so where as you can buy an aweful lot of car the the £80,000 a model S will cost you here, in Noggie land its no more expensive than say a 240 bhp bmw/audi/merc etc
