Sorry I havnt replied to any comments, Ive been gone this weekend. To clawhammer and 2QYK4U, the primaries are 1.75in for a reason.

At STOCK flow levels, and with STOCK cams, 1.75in proves to be just big enough to move THE MAXIMUN AMOUNT OF AIR THAT THE EXHAUST SIDE OF THE HEAD CAN MOVE.

In terms of FLOW, the exhaust ports can only move a certain amount of air at a given pressure. At stock flow levels, any given port CANNOT outflow the 1.75in pipe which is attached to it.

The stock exhaust cam has .400 inches of lift. At 28" of H20 with .400in of lift the exhaust side of the head is flowing an approx. maximum of 200cfm. From this we use the equation CFMx1.27/FD squared (where FD represents an average flow density of 80cfm) to determine our approx. primary pipe diameter.

For the very last time, BIGGER IS NOT ALWAYS BETTER! If the condtions described above were altered by adding boost to the equation, then bigger pipes WOULD BE beneficial. I have no data representing a boosted application, therefore I cant make any conjectures about such a setup.

What I can say is that if you were to substantially increase exhaust port flow(through headwork or boosting), a 1.75in primary will slightly restrict your flow hurting top end power a bit, but will also improve your drivability.

I hope this helps to educate our readers, and provide some insight into the world of exhaust tuning!

Justin,
I know you are going turbo, but why not keep the T1R 70? Are you doing a custom 3 inch or something? Let me know.. because I think the T1R would be too loud for me NA because of the police in my area, but if I go turbo... it might not be too bad because of the turbo acting as a muffler.
Well to be honest, the NUMBER ONE reason I sold it was because of price. I knew I could get a lot of money for one, and get a custom one fabbed up for half the price, or the InlinePRO 3 inch for just over half the price of selling the T1R. I'm doing this all on a budget, and I have been able to sell 3,800 worth of parts, so not much is actually coming out of my pocket.

Another reason, the Downpipe doesn't fit exactly where the header leaves off. You have to do some customizing to make it work, and it just seemed like the best options would be to get a new exhaust. Plus, the larger the diameter, the more power. I'd go more than 3" but then I'd have some clearance issues as the turbo singles fit under that bar in the rear in the car (I don't know its name) and not over it like all the other exhaust systems. My car is almost slammed and I might even have to raise it some because this exhaust will be sitting pretty low. If it weren't a problem, I'd go with 3.5 inch.

Also, you're correct in that it will be much quieter. The T1R70 would probably sound like stock exhaust with the turbo, or just barely louder. Turbo'd cars have a completely different exhaust note, that is nothing like any of the NA sounding ones. I've heard the InlinePRO one over the phone and I wanted to cry tears of joy at how badass it sounded.

2QYK4U, now we are almost on the same page! The header will show the BEST increases on a STOCK or NEAR STOCK platform. However that is not to say that modified cars wont show good gains to. There are several things we could do that would supplement the header such as modifications on the intake side as well as an exhaust system. It is also my belief that if we add a bit more overlap, then the scavenging effect will be increasingly aided. About the only thing this header wouldnt work well with (in terms of peak hp #'s) is a boosted application, however I state again that I HAVE NO DATA TO SUPPORT! Hopefully in the future we can run some R&D on a boosted application.

i am in dire need of rear axles or inner CV joints!! i am trying to find some currently so that my car is at 100% for dynoing of this header. although i did make my 227 #'s on bad joints, but i dont know it they'd even cause a power loss, i doubt it.

so if anyone knows of a junk'd s2 and get locate me some axles that'd be nice. if i dont find any i am going to have to go on a prayer and get some half-shaft spacers and hope it fixes it temp.

I'm on it! Gotta pick up an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, then it's down to 2nrwerks to breath some fire into this beast!!
