I didn't read that whole article, but what they are saying dose NOT apply to all dyno's
"The dynamometer applies various loads on the engine and measures the engine's ability to move the load."
most Dynamometers do not apply any load at all, ie. dynojet, dynapak.
but what you are saying about the TACH being hooked up or not is what is going to display your Torq on the chart is not true... are you sure the dyno operator didnt just leave that second X out?
if you look at my dyno in my pictures you will see my HP curve, but no Torq, is torq still being read? YES to because get HP the dyno must have 2 Variables.... the reason my chart does not show TQ is because i didnt display it.
I dont want to argue with you, but ALL dynos read TQ.

Your equation for deriving horsepower from torque and my equation for deriving torque from horsepower are equivalent to each other. The dynojet I used measures horsepower, period. If it measured torque, then it would not have been able to record any values for me, as you cannot calculate torque from speed given the conditions the dyno is operated in.
After the initial run, with the rpm pickup attached, we had no dyno plot. We could not get a torque curve, nor a horsepower curve, until we switched to base off speed...then only horsepower shows. This proves that the dynojet is smart enough to calculate horsepower based off speed.
Can we just settle this and agree that dyno's read both horsepower and torque, but will not plot a torque curve unless the independent variable is rpm's, and not speed?
