I'm looking into buying gears in the feature for my setup, So you guys recommend doing 4.77 over 4.57 ? This car is my daily driver and I do alot of hwy and some city driving. I was wondering with 4.77 what the rpm @ 80-85mph ?

Birdie Pm me if you want some 4.77's i have new ones.

And please never ever wrap anything on the cold side of the motor, Heat wrap actually holds in heat on the exhaust side to make it hotter...This way the air will flow faster. I actually have a friend that works for a airplane coater. I got my intake mani coated in a heat reduction coating. 1.6 times more to be exact.
I do have another one i got done if people want to do a core swap with me.

^you're joking....right?
Since you put it that way, I guess I am joking.

So maybe the examples were bad. Changing out the hood, trunk, fenders, etc. to carbon fiber will not make much of a weight difference but are there areas on the S where significant weight reduction can be achieved? I know one was the exhaust.

When I changed out my exhaust, I was surprised by how heavy the stock exhaust was.

There are lots of areas for weight reduction but I'd only do it for a track only car i.e. guting the inside, remove the spare tire and tools, removing the convertable top (the motors weigh a ton). For a daily driver, getting rid of the stock exhaust is about the best thing to loose weight (go Ti if if you have money to blow). Also, again, if you money to blow, a smaller battery.

This will help

For the record, I'm very happy with the 4.625 final drive. For me the 4.77 seemed too high when looking at the in-gear top speeds.

I'll let you know my results after I do it...

I know it keeps heat in...but basically its simply an insulator, all it does is reduce the transfer of heat in the form of conduction...there really isn't a reason for this not to work on the cold side.

I'll try it, see what I see...I'll record before and after data with the EMS of the intake air temp

Version,
You will loose top end...no doubt. BUT, how much time are you going to spend at top speed anyhow? I can hit 100-110 (more than enough to get arrested) and still keep up with a SC s2000 1-st to 3rd. PM Ccarnel...he rode in my car and all could keep saying was WOW!

Well, I forget exactly what the JDM AP1 compression ratio was...it was either 11.3:1 or 11.7:1 from what I remember. I believe the JDM S2000 was rated at 247bhp instead of 240...so lets say that they were 11.7:1 that would be 1hp per each .1 increase in the compression ratio, ROUGHLY. If it was only .3 it would be closer to 2hp. The reason we don't have that ratio in America is because our gas isn't as good and the engines knock...basically

Personally I wouldn't mind bumping my compression up to 11.3 or even 11.5 with the EMS...if it is knocking I will know and I'll know to adjust things slightly. But its no where near the top of my list on things to do.

Yep I was I was...
I actually went in the end with the 4.57's in the car as I knew my transmission was going to be replaced with a 2004 transmission. Now i have something similar to 4.77's gears 1-4 and a little higher gearing in gears 5-6.
Long time no see man

I'm done modding the s2k. I've grown to love it for what it is. I now just have exaust, 2004 wheels and tires, 2004 transmission, 4.57 rear gears. My ultimate upgrade will be the purchase of an ariel atom... (300hp 250ft/lbs of torque in a ~1300lb car...er machine). Look out dragon here i come... liter sport bikes will scurry when they hear me comming!!!!
