This is a good topic. We just had a dyno day in the Bay Area last saturday, due to some issues the dyno was coming in at about 5-7% lower than it should have been so all our numbers are kind of low. But the shop owner is a great guy and is re-dyno'ing 30+ cars for free so I will be back there on friday morning. Since then I have added a VAFC which seems to be helping allot. I also have the mods that are in my sig (the mugen cooling mods are sitting in my car and haven't been installed yet though) so I'm pretty excited to see what kind of numbers I'm putting down. If you guys would like I will let you know the moment I get back from the dyno. You guys can pm about the results as I will likely forget to post them in this forum.

On a side note, max power and torque are great. But you guys need to be looking on whats going on before and after the max power is made. For those who have dyno'd before you guys know how bad the horsepower drop is after peek at 8k rpm. I mean it drops by about 20 hp. And the mid range is very important also. Thats why (especially for the 00' and 01' models) a VAFC can help so much because we run too rich in some parts of the power band. I'm hoping to increase my peak power with vafc by maybe 10-15 hose power. But I have seen it on this web site and in person that people will make 10 hp more with a vafc but at certain points in the rpm band like form 4-6k rpm and from 8.1-9k rpm that they can pick up almost 20-25 horsepower. Thats what will really shine when racing the car... Just a thought
Trust me...I'm in no way a peak number whore, and I don't think many of the people in this thread are. I'm definitly looking at the area under the curve, hence why I opted for the EMS rather then a simple VAFC, also got the wideband sensor, and just looking to improve power everywhere. However, as far as a peak number to reach, I'd like to reach 230whp and see it as very possible. I'd LOVE to reach 240whp and see it as possible as well, not easy but not increadibly hard either.

230 while a "peak" number also indicates a lot more area under the curve when talking about N/A numbers for our S2k's typically. Also, don't know if anybody else has thought about this, I have for quite some time now.

200whp * 1.2 = 240bhp THE AVERAGE stock AP1
230whp * 1.2 = 276bhp The long time JDM "limit"

1.2 indicates approx 20% drivetrain loss

u can get the j's header at evasivemotorsports.com (cheapest place ive seen the header, i ONLY buy parts from them) about 1260 or so at evasive...they get them in stock in a couple of weeks.
id say go with the j's exhaust either the 60rs like me or the 70RR if ur hardcore.
reason being-j's header has the biggest flanges/collector out there...65mm collector, if u match that up with the 70mm j's exhaust its about 2.75'(which is huge) tubing all the way thru and its almost all straight tubing.
even without the ecu you'd make some good power.

my car has no tuning i havent gotten to dyno yet(after the header i will)but its a lot quicker than my girlfriends stock s2000. Ive got the j's catback straight pipe and ARC intake
not to mention the j's exhaust weighs only 9lbs because it is titanium. Stock dual exhaust were HEAVY about 80lbs or so.

IMO, I want the best power adding (throughout the powerband) bolt ons available as I think the S2000 motor from the factory is built to the max as it is (streetable) I wish some owners would get together and do a bolt on dyno day, all the different Intakes (Mugen, J's Racing, ARC, AEM etc. etc.) Exhausts (70mm shootout, J's 70RR, Amuse R1000, T1R 70mm) and Headers (Amuse, J's Racing, Mugen, Toda, Spoon, Ricks) and see what products make power where.

I think the ideal performance set up would be AEM EMS, J's Intake, J's Header and whatever 70mm exhaust gives the most gains.

it only makes sense that a 70mm exhaust would make power. so next to j's, what is the second best header out there?

I dunno why everyone thinks the 70mm exhausts are so loud. I was prepared for absolute sonic deafening and I actually wouldn't mind it if my exhaust was louder. It's really not that bad.

Honestly I think my exhaust is WAY loud...however, I don't mind it too much. My JIC 63mm is loud because the seller with sold it me with a broken resonator or I blew it out within 2 weeks...after a while I was REALLY noticing a rattling noise...took the exhaust off and found out that the interior of the resonator and come loose. Took the exhuast to an exhuast fabricator, he was going to look at it and see if he could weld it back together on the inside, if not he was just going to take the stuff out. Well, just put the exhaust back on today with an "expansion pipe" in the place of the resonator (the resonator with nothing inside). Needless to say, its LOUD...no cat, no resonator, ONE straight through muffler. I'm going to love switching to a J's 70rr.

anyway, back on topic...lets make 230whp!
