What's the fastest you've been in a car?

OK, not that I condone it, but I think that krazik said that he did 100mph between Granite creek and Mount Hermon in the wee hours of the morning. This is actually possible.
If you are southbound on 17, the winding road breaks at the north side of Scotts Valley (Granite Creek) and you have about a 2 mile stretch of 2 lane, relatively straight freeway until the south side of Scotts Valley (Mount Hermon). So even though it's questionable to go that fast on a 2 lane with a barrier, it is possible in that stretch.

The stretch is plently long. And the s2k can get to 100mph pretty quick. You don't need anywhere near 1 mile of straight road to do a 100 (starting at freeway speeds of course).

Here is a map of the San Diego region showing road conditions and most important, real-time average speeds at all the freeway exits. It in not uncommon to see 85-90 MPH in some areas.

155~160 in an 2001 Honda Prelude and the gauge only goes to 150. talk about redlining. It was when i was going down to LA racing a Corvette. with a slight downhill. Corvette was doing at lease 190 as he was toying with me as I Maxed out he would pull on me then he would slow down then gun it again doing this 3 times. kinda got me upset. car just couldnt go anymore.
This is a disturbing post. Want a link to a newspaper article about a 17 year old driver who wrecked and killed an 18 year old passenger? It's this kind of bragging about speed that gets people killed. Want to go fast? Get your ass on a race track!
On a Saturday morning we drove from Venice Italy to Munich Germany at speeds exceeding 230kph (140mph). For almost a 1/2 hour we never went below 135. The best part; we were NOT speeding!!
The Autobahns are built correctly so high speed driving is possible, when conditions warrant. We were travelling on a weekend when trucks are verbotten. Everyone stays out of the high speed lane unless passing or going very very fast. Passing on the right is verbotten and if caught DWI you are punished severly. If you are in an accident while DWI your insurance is voided!! Plus the German driver is much better trained and disciplined. In my opinion driving 140mph on the Autobahn is safer than driving 80mph on Connecticut's congested highways!
We were once passed on the Autobahn, while cruising at 125mph, by a Euro M3. We estimated the M3's speed to be in excess of 150mph. The air was literally sucked out of our path when they passed.
This July, on a stretch of highway heading towards the Cape Cod, our s2000 "touched" 120, with the top down , but only for a few seconds, It was a rare opportunity with an open 3 lane highway with the next pack of cars almost a mile ahead. There was alot more rev's left but not enought highway.
Unfortunately, safe high-speed travel is becoming rare. Even German Autobahns are getting slower--just too many cars.
