^ He tested that he has power to the amp already... its remote wire fault, or possible the harness...as far as we can tell over the internet anyway.

if he didn't know to hook the remote lead to the amp, are we sure he hooked the remote lead to the HU?

right now, a multi-meter is what we need... i guess a test like can work, but i don't want to blow the HU remote feed.

turn on the car and HU, then test to see if your light will work between the remote lead and the ground. i'd bet we have no power to the remote lead.

OH, and before you start pulling everything out and bringing it to under the hood... since we know you have power at the amp, disconnect the remote lead from the amp, then run a short wire bridge from the + to the remote input (careful! don't let it touch the ground). if the amp doesn't turn on then, the amp might be bad.

Yes try the above just as Phil stated. Just from the positive to the remote. The light should turn on as should the amp. If not it sounds like you may have a bad amp.

Oh, sorry, didn't catch that part that he was getting power. Figured he wasn't since he didn't hook up the remote correctly/couldn't get the test light to work either.

I just wanted to eliminate any bad connection problems. What I suggested was just to make sure the amp even works! Sounds like a old amp was picked up, say from a friend, and it might not even work.

Well let us know.... oh and since you new to installing these this type of equipment, I suggest you remove the fuse from the inline fuse holder until you have everything installed. Otherwise you might pop the fuse by mistake

good to hear it's working now.

i have a link to a rather complete 'how to set gains' writeup in the FAQ. check it out.

just as a point of note --

whenever installing amps ALWAYS connect the ground first. ALWAYS. i can't remember all the PM's i've gotten over the years of people frying amps b/c they went hot before ground.
