I agree with CKit on this one. Diminishing returns (performance per dollar) sets in very rapidly with this car past a certain point. Spending 10 grand on turbo/tuning/install then another 7 grand reinforcing the drivetrain is ludicrous beyond all comprehension. At that point you might as well buy a Z06 and save yourself the headache and the heartache.

The way some people talk, it sounds like they are S2000 enthusiasts first, then driving enthusiasts second. I'm the opposite. If there were anything better than the S2000 in this price range, I would have bought it instead, but there isn't. Add $15-20k to the price though and the alternatives all of a sudden become much more appealing.

Hope you read the fine print well. Those damn things always seem to have a lot of loopholes... I certainly wouldn't trust a lifetime warranty for an OEM part on a highly modified car...

When you have 400+ hp, I don't see the reason to ever slam gears. These cars are fast enough just rolling in through the gears let alone slamming them. I've been driving mine at 550hp on the weekends "gently slamming" gears and my diff and tranny are fine. This isn't a FWD civic.

Is it really worth it to spend $15,0000-20k on a car you can no longer daily drive or run around a road course due to sooo much power or fear of breaking down. Maybe 500hp and above is too much power unless you just want to drag race it or make it a dyno queen like alot of 2JZ are? Maybe stopping at around 350-400 hp and enjoying the car everyday wouldve been better ? I intend to go F1 eventually but keep it at a driveable level I guess so I can still daily drive it and make the most of my car... Just wondering if the pros outweight the cons when you get to this level of performance thats all.

for me, its a drug. car eventually feels slow and you want to make it faster. you rationalize the amount of money it will cost, then you just friggin do it. however, for me, i cant drop 7-9k on a drivetrain, so ill be stuck at my power level for awhile, maybe try and touch 550 on e85, but then call it a day. if a trans/diff breaks, im going to buy a used oem replacement one.

I was thinking about getting back into an S2000 and going FI this time around since the kits seems great and there are a few decently priced rear-ends now. Then I see this thread. The performance bargain of a forced induction S2000 is greatly diminished when you factor in $5-7K for a Supra tranny and $2-3k for a rear end.

I read some of you guys saying you shouldn't drive the car hard.... why would you buy a sports car to not drive it hard? I understand the difference between driving a car hard and abusing it, but to me, a clean redline upshift from 1st to 2nd is not abuse, it's driving a performance car the way it's meant to be driven.

A clean redline upshift most likely won't break the tranny. Powershifting will.

Daily driving at 500+ whp isn't crazy or implausible in an s2000. Doing burnouts and powershifts in a 500+ whp (or any) s2000 that is your daily is stupid.

IMO, if it starts to feel slow, you're not taking enough turns. A bone stock S2000 is fast enough through the turns to make most people wet their pants. Modified properly it's downright terrifying.

If you're looking for a drag racer you bought the wrong car.

Yeah lemme take that right turn into my neighborhood faster lol. Stock in a straight line gets boring. I like to stomp on the go pedal and feel a rush of power. Guess u don't.
