I've also never seen anyone tune quite like Giles. His 1000rpm tune is very cool, but as the car's owner, unbearable to watch.

Post Dip Tuning (2 - 3 hours on dyno)

I'm I the only one that notices that the tuning done here only seems to have lowered the torque from 195 to 175 ft/lbs in the 4-6k RPM range in order to get rid of the "dip" ? It looks like now everything is dipped.

The first tune was done in 35 degree temps. Ptuning uses a special tuning chamber and fans that blow in ambient air from outside to simulate external conditions. The second tune was done in 80 plus degree temps. The car is actually significantly more powerful after the second tune than it was after the first. The curve itself is what I was showing, not the final numbers due to different days and temps.

So, if I'm understanding correctly, both of these graphs are uncorrected, and one is in 35 degrees ambient and the other 80+ degrees ambient?

Using standard SAE conversion tables and varying only the temperature, I only see a 6% difference in power between those two temperatures. That can only account for about 10 ft/lbs of torque.

The second graph still seems to indicate worse performance before 6k and marginally better after 6k. Unless I am missing something....

I'm definitely interested in this kit, and the "VTEC Valley" is one of the big reasons I am holding off (that and the boost creep issues).

Honestly, I'm not that anal about these things but there are certainly more variables than just temperature. The two tuning sessions happened about 6 months apart in different seasons with different humidity. My car had almost 130,000 miles on it the first time and over 136,000 miles the second time. I may or may not have changed fluids in that period. I have no idea about the quality of gas I may have had in the car each time other than it was at least 92. I also put on a new cat in between the dyno runs. None of that really matters to me . The car is more fun to drive now because it pulls harder and smoother than it did before all the way to redline and has far fewer issues. I don't have a 1/4 mile time from November 2007 and I don't have one from May 2008 to compare, and even if I did the temps would be different.

If you really want details call Toan at Ptuning and specifically ask him what he did to correct the dip in my car and in Joey's car. Ask him about any doubts you may have about a Greddy Turboed S2k from a tuning standpoint, and I'm sure he will help you.

Things can change. Here is a dyno of my car after I put on snow tires but before I changed the cat.

Whoa! Where did all the power go? It came right back after I put on the summer tires. My new winter tires made lousy contact with the dyno rollers forcing them to strap the whole car down differently than before. Notice how the torque is eerily similar to the tune that was done in May 2008.

I also have no issues with boost creep whatsoever.

Fair enough. I can't argue with a happy customer and butt dyno. I'm glad the kit is working for you.

I may just give Toan a call.
