Great lil write up bagherra!
14 hrs...did you do the install yourself?

-An before you keep on mashing the gas I really agree on going to a dyno to fix your air/fuel mixture with the fmu.

Add me to the list.

Got it in today.

Stage 1+AC+SL

Pre-install impressions:
1) Instructions were great. It made the install much easier especially since I'm a newbie at S2Ks.
2) The packing and labeling was top notch. A couple of my friends mentioned that the kit was very well organized.
3) The install time is pretty accurate for someone who hasn't done it before. Mine took about 14-15 hours...I also took my time.
4) Even with the instructions, having the S2K service manual will be very helpful for the install.

Post-install impressions:
1) Exactly what I was looking for. I was hoping for a bump in power along the same line as the stock power/torque curve and I got it. Feels like stock when driving, until you give it the gas.
2) With the Vtec lowered to 4400 or so and Invidia exhaust the sound is amazing top listen to. Definitely sounds better than before. I've had a lot of compliments about it just today. I love the subtle SC sound under the hood also.
3) Makes the S so much more enjoyable to drive.

Pix will be coming soon. I still need to do some cleaning up. I'll post a dyno once I get a chance to do that.

I'm really happy with this kit and I'm looking into Stage 2 setup.

The only bad news is I'm going to need a new clutch soon. I'm taking chances with the stock clutch and I can feel/smell it slipping already at WOT.

p.s. A friend and I found a nice "trick" for removing the crank pulley. Use a combination of PB-Blaster and heat from a torch. Heat up the crank pulley bolt, but be careful to not put the flame on surrounding components...just the bolt. Heat it for about 5 minutes. Add PB-Blaster to bolt...it's going to smoke a lot. Give it a crank with the appropriate tools. It should release.

We both couldn't get it even with bending the breaker bars and using a 3' pipe, but the combo of the above did the trick. It released with one good crank. I hope this helps others.
Thank you for your write up, your feedback is very helpful.

If you have any suggestions for improving the installation guide, we'd love to hear it.

Cheers,
-- Chris

So, with the stage one kit, and the SOS FVM on an AP1, there is no tuning needed after install?
The 2000-05 kits include an adjustable rising rate fuel pressure regulator. They are pre-set for the 2.0L or 2.2L engines on a test bench before shipping. However, you should always test a car with a new forced induction system on the dyno to verify proper operation. We include a fuel pressure graph and sample AFR graph in the installation guide for reference that can be compared to.

Cheers,

Thanks man. Yeah....14 hours by myself. I had some helpers a.k.a. beer drinker friends, but I did 99% myself. I took my time too...remeasuring stuff...etc. Just to make sure it was all good prior to startup.

I agree with the dyno...I need to get it there as soon as I can.

Hi Chris,
I had a copy of the old CompTech install instructions to refer to as well and I can say yours was incredibly much more detailed than the CT one. The parts listed, the torque specs, the pics were all top notch.

There were a couple of times when I had to refer to the shop guide (fuel pump install being one) but mostly due to my lack of experience with the S2K. I know my way around much better now.

have a noob question: Once you have the stage 1 setup, what is the max that you can upgrade the system without going to a standalone like AEM EMS or Hondata? higher flow injectors, fuel pump, pulley/belt

reason for asking is that it sounds like once you go to a standalone your car will pass inspection or emissions? or do i have this all mixed up?

2000-2005 require a fuel pump period, no matter what stage you run. You cannot pass a Cali type inspection with an AEM ECU. This includes most of the North East as well. The AEM doesn't have ODBII compliance and will fail any inspection that requires it.

You MIGHT be able to sneak through with the K-pro however, as it's a piggy back and the odbii will still be accessible.

I think SOS recomends anything over stage 1 get injectors, k-pro/aem ecu, etc. I'd say anything over 8psi should get this stuff. What type of injectors and pulley size will be determined by what HP you are going for.
