You'll without question want to be bringing a spare diff (or two)...

Right on!! I even did that in STR and Stock class, especially with me doing the AP1 Tranny/Diff update/backdate. There has to be a way to get the AP2 diff (stronger housing) to work with the AP1 tranny and be legal. Once that is figured out, I'll take my Mugen 2-way and drop it in an AP2 diff housing. Even then, I'll still bring a spare diff. haha

...and had to beg someone (ok maybe not beg, but rely on the kindness of others) to bring my tire trailer to another kind person's (iluvketchup) house to store so I could get towed to the shop to have it fixed and then ask someone to drive me back from PA to NY and then take a train to NJ the following weekend to get driven back to the shop to take my car home. I don't mind asking for help but it was a logistic nightmare lol.

tranny will break second gear during a hard shift with just the small bump in torque plus a strong clutch. Its not common, but happened twice last year between the bsp s2000's.
Ap2 s2000 pretty bullet proof if built right with good bearing cap bolts. Since ap2 driveshaft bolts right up to ap1 tranny, its a no brainer. I still need to find a spare complete tranny. I only have a couple spare parts left and one worn second gear.

Correct. Will not be a normal problem. Also cannot happen if your running stock ball joints, the offset ones were asking for trouble as they added stress to the eye loop where oem ball joint is pressed in.

Wow, that's a great blog of your build! Thanks for sharing that! It looks like it has a ton of helpful lessons learned.

Yeah, after that diff blowing up, I can see why you'd punt on pulling a tire trailer. When you were pulling the tire trailer, did you experience any issues? I did this in the A-Stock days and know a few tricks from that, but not sure if there were any things that might relate to being to a more prepared class.

Thanks again for sharing that info and experience!

Well, you've given me some hope/encouragement about the diff situation. Now I just need to find a couple of AP2 diff's and take my Mugen diff out of the AP1 housing and put it in an AP2 one. How have the bearing cap bolts been holding up? Have you needed to do extra checking/torquing of them to keep them in check?

Now on the flip side, I'm bummed about the tranny being a potential weak point. Luckily my AP1 tranny is a pretty low mileage one, but I'll have to start looking for one of those too. I'm just not sure how I can get that to fit in tire trailer.

Thanks!!

No I never had issues. Used to tow tire trailer even when I'd go up to Watkins glen for track days. If you don't have a choice it's fine but just have a backup plan. I had injector clip issues early in my build last year that almost had me stranded on the NJ turnpike on my way down to DC. It wasn't fun because even though I have AAA platinum they won't tow my tire trailer if they rescue me (at least not for free). My build has no secrets. Everything is in that blog. I don't want anyone questioning the legality of my car plus I got used to sharing info from my STR days.

Last year, I cleaned house and got rid of my Durango and Featherlite trailer, so I am just hoping I don't end up regretting that decision. haha It is possible being in BSP trim that the drive to the events won't be tolerable, but I DD'ed a STS prepped CRX, so I can tolerate a pretty good beating driving down the road. haha

If I get the car in time, I will be traveling to several events that are within 2-3 hours so that will be a good test of the setup before making the drive to Lincoln. One thing that I believe I still have from the A-Stock days are the bearings for the tire trailer. IIRC, those bearings are a bit different and difficult to locate.

The S2KI community sharing development/settings/configurations is one of the many reasons I stay with this platform. IMO, it makes us all better. I hope that I will be able to contribute back at one point.
