Geez. How much can clear coat weigh? I have 2 sets. One was silver but custom painted orange and the other is on the car.

The website says .4 lbs per wheel. Here was the response:
"I asked around, and a few of the salesmen here also thought what I thought, it probably has to do with the coating on that wheel. It doesn't take much clear to come up with 1/2 lb... so I assume its accurate and the black weighs slightly less....

Thanks!"

The last phrase shows that it is a guess/assumption. Not sure if there is any truth behind it at all, which is why I'm wondering if anyone here might know.

I hate how black wheels look, but I might actually get them if they weigh less. I'm very utilitarian and can deal with ugly.

It looks like I will most likely settle for the TRmotorsports C3 wheels for next season.

A question on those rims....

I got a response from Tire Rack saying that they believe the website is accurate in showing that the black wheels actually weigh less than the same wheel in gun metal or silver. Anyone have any insight on this? They assumed it was due to additional clear coat that isn't on the black version.
Clear coat? You've got to be kidding... I have the greys which were the first color they produced. They're rated at 19.2lbs. They have so much rubber attached to them because of cone glazing it's not even funny.. So, in other words, there is zero clear coat on these wheels. It's a super cheap finish... but they're super cheap wheels. Bah, who cares.

It did suprise me that the wheels were .5lbs less... just for being a different color. I just can't imagine that much paint on there.

Anyway, I wanted to change something on the car.... without changing corner balance, tune, sway bars, etc. before Nationals....

Here's what I decided on...
Lighter than Volks, Lighter than BBS Magnesiums. 14.4 lbs a peice! 17x9 +63! These are so freaky light in person you almost throw them up in the air when you go to pick them up. Special Thanks to Evasive Motorsports for sourcing these so quickly... on such short notice!

I know... seems like no one knew about them. I stumbled accross these on complete accident... I'd given up on the possibility of light weight wheels without having to buy volks. I kept my mouth shut till I could touch them! And they're so smooth! So silky smooth!
Well... If I decide to go with a 2nd set of wheels, I believe I will get these.

Congrats on the find and purchase! Thanks for sharing.

You know, it makes you wonder how light you could get the TR Motorsport wheels if you acorn blasted them and just removed all the paint. I mean heck, if you can get it lightened by .5lbs just by changing it from Primer grey to black... Could you get another .5lbs by removing all the paint? That would put them only .5lbs above the 949's right?

Advan Racing RG Cast 17x8.5 16.5lbs

There is a thread in our Wheel and Tire Special interest forum. Advan came up with a special 17x9 +60 offset wheel.

Here's the quote on weights...

"I will not have exact weights until the wheels are certified, however, my best guess is 15.5-16.5 lbs front and 16.5-17.5 lbs rear. These weights are very close (within .5 - 1 lbs) to forged wheel weights.
"
thanks,
-- Chris

So, I'm going to guess 16.8 - 17.2 with a price tag of $2340.00.

Granted, they are super good looking. However, I already posted on there that I was concerned about the +60 offset... after all I already beat up one of my fenders with +63. +60 would even make it worse.

**EDIT** I did a ton of research on this... best I can tell, the Buddy Club P1 QF's is the lightest 17x9 period. The +63 is the lightest of Buddy Clubs 17x9 wheels. i.e. the 17x9 QF +28 weight about 14.6.
