Thats why I want to talk to the committee. It's weights more and uses the same mounting points. I wouldn't think it would matter? That would be like saying a aftermarket headunit and speakers and illegal. I hate debating rule

The SEB won't give you a ruling on that because its very clearly illegal just from reading the rulebook.

As for your penalty - that will be up to whether or not someone protests you and then what the PC decides.

It's different because you're substituting parts from a different model year, which is specifically prohibited in the rule book, unlike installing aftermarket stereo components.

Having said that, although swapping out the head unit and speakers is technically legal, if someone replaced a really heavy factory system with a big sub with a pair of tweeters, I think there would be valid grounds for a protest and a meaningful penalty. It's all about potential performance improvement and intent.

Now, in your case, I agree that there's no meaningful potential for performance improvement. Regardless, I agree with Nick that writing to the SEB would be pointless. It's like driving 2 mph over the limit -- it's technically illegal, but while we all know it won't hurt anyone, you're not going to get a letter from the Supreme Court saying that it's ok. You just need to decide whether you're willing to live with the small but non-zero level of risk.

I hate to sound like a smartass, but if you follow the rules, there's no need for debate.

It seems to me that the center console would be a comfort & convenience upgrade. Definitely not a legal update/backdate, but why wouldn't it be comfort & convenience? The leather cover is nice, the sliding door on the cupholder is nice. If it's not a weight savings, and doesn't have some other benefit like removing that thing you always hit your elbow on while shifting, it seems like a good fit to the rule.

As for the door panels -- what is the difference between them?

Also, when you're talking about weight savings, you have to base it on the individual pieces, not the overall difference of the console plus the door panels. If the console is heavier and the door panels are lighter, then no door panels. It doesn't matter if they are heavier as a set.

The ap2 door panels are heavier because they have built in tweeters. the ap2 ones have a different leather pattern, tweeters, pocket to put things, and silver ring around the handle. They just look nicer in genral.

The tweeters are no guarantee that the panels are heavier -- those tweeters don't weigh much. You'd have to weigh both of them to know for sure.

ap1 door panel-

weight-

ap2 door panel weight-

.35LBS more on the ap2 door panels. So it's not a weight saving mod at all if anything it harms me. ALthough I like it because it looks nicer.
