My dealer sent me a letter that it was time to bring the car in for service. At the time it was barely 3 months and 800miles?? Usually I change every 3-4 months as I do alot of stop and go
driving, but for the first change on this car I'll wait until 4k miles or 8 months wich ever comes first.

I'm waiting for the 3750 that Honda recommends.

Honda knows how to build a car and how to make it last.

But thats just me
The same Honda recommends we Aussies change the same oil after 1000km (600 miles). This stuff about the original oil being different is BS.

You can't hurt your engine by changing oil too often, only your wallet.

I think someone posted that the Honda Engineers recommended leaving in the original oil til about 5000-7000 miles. I VTEC'd a lot with mine and the oil stopped burning around 3600 miles. I only burned a 1/4 of a quart the whole 3600 miles. She has about 4700 to 4800 miles on her now. I will change my baby's milk to Mobil1 early next week and slap a magnet on the oil filter when I get to the 5000 mark. Also change the differential fluid on her along with my truck's once I find out if I need any washers for the S2000.

I think I saw this question on another thread but I can't find it so...

Honda's standard (non-syn) oil is made by Quakerstate! Yuck. I used to build race engines years ago and Quakerstate fans were in for a suprise (bad-sludge build-up like I've never seen) when their engines came apart. I'm sure they've gotten better but that's one brand I'll never use.

I was the recent guy to complain about 1-qt usage every 1k miles. Today I switched to std oil (from Mobil-1) and hope the problem goes away eventually. I think I'll keep this oil in for about 5-6k instead of the usual 3k I would normally do. Then I'll go back to Mobil-1.

Thanks for everyone's earlier suggestions,

Dave

You guys sure haven't helped! Dealer slapped a sticker on my new S2k windshield that said to change every 3k miles. Owner's manual, which is usually VEERRRRRY cya conservative, says to change at 7500. Dealer service mgr says to bring it in at 3750. So which is it?

I do what HONDA recommends. The dealers would love to get us all in the habit of changing every 3k miles. This doesn't add as much life to your car as it does to the dealer's bottom line.
