^ Carpet interiors are SICK!

Trust me, you'll love this car and the club that surrounds it. I don't know where you live and what your local club is like, but the s2katlanta club has 135 paid members and is a great social club. We go on mountain drives once a month and have track days and tech days where we work on each other's cars. On July 4th I hosted a headlight diffuser clearing party at my house, and am hosting a DIY front grill/brake cooling duct tech day this coming fall.

The social aspect of the club just goes hand in hand with how awesome the car is and how much fun it is to drive. I can not wait until the dragon run next month... I've been having some serious cravings for some mountain runs!

If you appreciate NA cars and the fun-to-drive aspect, I'm sure that you'll love this little car

In any case, the Porsche is also a nice car. You really can't go wrong with either one ...

You came here to hear what you want to hear?
Or for some honest impressions?

You have sold your old school ride and the $$ are burning in your pocket, aren't they?
Now go and but yourself a Berlina MY00 S2000 (ask for service history! & owners manual) and you will get the 9000 rpm redline, lots of pure car, just carpet on the center console (I mean.. carpet! ) and it will drive like the wind.
Get the OEM Potenza's S-02 before summer ends, get a UK-spec allignment and you will never even want that Boxster, even if they give it to you.

How's that for impressions?
Because that is how I feel about my S2000 now.
The change in final drive also made a huge impact, that is some nice wrenching project for you to look forward to.
that's what I want to hear too.
I have considered the early cars - pcar friend told me the same thing - drives his 'ole man's early car and loves it.

It's been difficult for me to choose a car.
get into another pcar?
tried the new GTI
drove a freinds 350Z
considered BMW's
looked at audi TT - too soft.

I'm looking forward to this s2000

S2000 is the fun-factor winner against those cars. The longer you own an S2000 the more you appreciate it. Great car.

I'd say get a late 02 or 03 car. See the links at the top of the forum for all of the little model year changes.

No! The AP2s (2004 and up models) are definitely better!!!! j/k

Anyway, there are a lot of debate about AP1 and AP2. Just run a search on this site, and you'll see a lot of posts about it. Here are a few pieces from the internet:

http://www.carpages.ca/go/roadtest/2..._overview.aspx (This is by far my favorite review. It contains a lot of technical information, and stays relatively unbiased.)

http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2...23/175141.html

http://www.thecarconnection.com/Vehicle_Re...S184.A6531.html

http://www.automobilemag.com/reviews/conve...11_honda_s2000/

Either case, I'm sure you'll be happy. Bottom line: they are both S2000s!

I currently have both an '85.5 944, and a '00 S2000.
They are both great cars, of that there is no doubt.
We've had the 944 for 15 years, and it's been absolutely a reliable and fun car to own. There is more maintenance to do, but keeping up on the belts and such is not a big deal as I'm sure you know. Suspension design has obviously progressed over the years, but the 944 still feels current and takes a set and inspires confidence with the best of them. Our early S2000 is a bit more 'wired' at the limit, so playing with the VTEC transitions mid-turn (or 'lifting' in any car with a high compression engine) is going to upset the balance- well DUH!
The 944 feels like it was carved from a solid piece of granite, where even though nearly as light, the S2000 does not....and will dent if you lean on the body panels.

The bottom line is you will love the S2000, but I'm willing to bet you will miss the 944 from time to time.

just what I want to hear and exactly what I want.
I owned a Boxster prior to the S, which I have owned now for about 4 months. I find the Honda very German like, and very Porsche like in feel, quality and finish. The S IMO is stiffer than the Box, certainly faster (I'm not talking about the Boxster S, but the 2.7L Box) and tighter. The steering is better in the Honda, the brakes feel like Porsche brakes and the shifter is world's better. the driving position, and position of the steering wheel is olmost exactly the same as the Boxster, and although the Honda's digital tach and lack of analog instruments initially put me off, it took about 5 minutes to appreciate them and understand how completely intuitive they are for the driver. Handling is very similar to the Boxster (and probably the 944 although I haven't driven a front engine Porsche): very balanced leading to oversteer.
