Question for you guys.. Why would a car be "sold at auction" according to autocheck if it's a new car? Based on the records of an s2k I'm looking at, it was sold at auction at 5k miles old. Could it have been a demo vehicle? I'm just trying to understand why it would have been sold at an auction for a newish car.

Also, if that's the case, would you guys avoid a car that's "sold at auction?" It's an '06 w/ <20k miles, so it should still be under the powertrain warranty for at least another year. Any thoughts?

Hey, folks! First post here.

Looking to join the S2KI family with a 2006 NFR from a private seller as follows:

Pros:
  • 34k miles
  • 3/4 rims in perfect condition, one with very minor curb rash (easily sandable)
  • Completely stock
  • Paint is in good shape and body panels (minus the front bumper) are free of dings, dents, and scratches

Cons:
  • Completely bald front and rear tires
  • Worn area on soft top behind the passenger area (TSB service has not been performed)
  • Bumper lip has been scraped from ramps/tire blocks
  • Interior is semi-worn with a crushed bolster, worn center armrest, and scratches on the dash and on many plastic trim pieces

Negotiated price: 16.5k

I've parted out spare interior trim pieces from various online part catalogs and it looks like I can get replacements for most of the scratched items for under $300. I also saw a really good bolster repair tutorial that I'd be willing to attempt on my own.

In some ways, the worn tires may be a blessing. It'll allow me to pick out fresh rubber to my liking.

The worn top worries me. The car is just over the 3 year warranty period, but the car is still under the 36k mile warranty limit. That said, the soft top replacement TSB mentions the possibility of a goodwill out of warranty repair. I'm willing to take my chances on this, but if worse comes to worst, I suppose I can always file down the arm myself and reinforce the worn section of the top.

I'm also arranging to have the car taken to a mechanic for a compression test before I commit to anything.

Any red flags I should look out for? The car drives great, has a good service history, and generally seems to have been cared for.

What do all of you think? Is 16.5k fair for a car in this shape? Thanks!

What about these?

2006 Silver S2K, $20.8k, 19.5k miles

2008 Black S2K, $22.8k, 17.5k miles

I know that from 06+ the models didn't really change at all.. but would 2 years on a car make a different of $2k? I guess the 2,000 mile difference could also affect the pricing, even if it's not a lot?

Hey i was looking at the same black s2k when i was car shopping. The only thing that really bothered me on that car was that the seats looked worn and cracking for a 17,000 car. The dealer didn't even bothered to clean the car one bit before taking pictures, the steering wheel looks pretty worn also. Just looks like the previous owner didn't take care of the car much.

I ended up buying a 2006 with 15,500 miles but the car looked brand spanking new inside and outside. Seats look like they were never used, same with the rest of the interior.

If you decide on buying that one make sure you ask everything about the car and look at it really closely in person. Something i wasn't able to do since i was out of state. Run compression and leakdown, check oil level to see if there was enough in there to begin with. Test drive to see if you hear any funny noises. Tires, softop condition, all the tools in the trunk, all the keys, and you could use some of that to negotiate the price a bit more. Good Luck

Yeah the silver one looks much better, the bb 06 they have looks a 10000x better then the 08 they have. You should give that a look too, unless you are looking for a low mile, then that silver is pretty tempting.

Only things i see are worn driver side bolster. Also looks like the soft top straps are wearing out, since the top looks a little bit high when lowered but thats a $20 fix with modifry's soft top fix which is better then oem. So check and make sure that the top isn't torn or anything, as bad straps can pinch and rip a hole in the top when lowering and raising the top.

What's a realistic target price to pay for an '03 with 15k miles, stock, except for front lower lip, rear trunk lip spoiler, plus optional hardtop? It's at a dealer, and it just happens to be my #1 color choice.

They're asking $18.5k. I'm considering calling and attempting to beat them down on the price. It is the garage-queen that I've been dreaming about, and I kind-of expect to pay a small premium. But how much?

Looking at an '06 Laguna stock with 12k miles.. they are asking 22k + ttt.. I'm looking to get them down towards 20k.. sound reasonable or should I start looking for a little bit older since I'm not really wanting to go past 20k.

Picked up an 06 sebring silver with 40k miles certified used for 19988 plus tax, only thing wrong is a shitty front bumper paint job that they do to cover up regular chips from 40k miles.

I'm in negotiations with someone selling an '04 White s2k. Here are the details:

- $16k
- 64k miles
- Super clean and comes
- Tien coilover suspension
- Painted carbon fiber hood
- Brand new tires

What do you think?
