-Official- Is this car worth it thread - vol. 2
So im finally getting back into an s2000 as my daily driver after selling my first AP1. Im thinking about picking up this yellow one in Phx, AZ. But the seller doesn't seem to have the answer to all my questions. Here's a link to all the pictures.

If you can locate picture 20, (top view) of the interior. I can see two buttons that look like a defroster. I don't believe that a 2001 would have this function would it? The rear window is glass, so is it most possible that the original owner installed a newer generation center button, with the installation of the glass window? The seller also said that there was a center speaker installed between the two seats. I'm having him send pictures and a video tonight. What do you all think about the buy?

glad that you posted it, im gonna buy it tonight. thanks for making my search easy. jk.
if i remember correctly those two buttons were for heated seats in the non US market ones. so perhaps he installed some aftermarket heated seats? but then again in AZ those arent needed. so you have confused me.

Things I noticed,
1. The front and rear H emblems are not the original, they are different.
2. Why is the rear black trim piece painted and the front spoiler not painted at all?
Did he disclose if the car was in an accident?
S2000's can be tracked, it's not like they are Civics and are going to explode from a few track days.
Make sure all the vins are there all around the car.
I would offer him less than asking.

Sure, they can be tracked with no ill effects but this also increases the likelihood of a mis-shift, over-rev, excessive clutch wear, additional suspension bushing wear, etc..
If there was a choice between a tracked and a non-tracked car of similar condition, I think everyone here would prefer the latter. Just my $.02
Yeah I didn't notice the emblems to the car. Good eye, now I'm thinking that the car could be repainted. Also if the original model doesn't come with a rear window than that defrost button must have been installed after. I offered him 13k
That panel behind the cup holder that has the defroster button is a stock option/accessory. It was designed for the 00-01 to utilize the defroster on the hardtop, but is often used for a glass rear window. It goes in place of the coin tray located behind the cup holder. I have this in mine. Fit and finish is really good. One button is a defrost switch, the other is a block off plate.
Emblems may be factory honda emblems (not for the S2000, but can be purchased through honda for the S2000, majestic has them under 00-01 accessories because they are too small to cover the 02+ larger emblems) or cheap ebay ones. Can't tell from the picture.
The rear bumper has been repainted, and the front lip is not painted because it is a polyurethane replica. Polyurethane is difficult to paint and cracks the paint easily.

This is like playing "Where's Waldo"
1) aftermarket AEM Intake. They are nice but subject to hydrolock in high rain areas, your OK there.
2) front lip is an EBay polyurethane unit. OEM is hard to get and shipped white. Good fit and they are easily consumed going in and out steep driveways
3) Badge appears to be a Rick's leather set. Nice and wear well. OEM was open so factory paint showed
4) Windshield is tinted
5) Calipers have been painted red
6) Radio door is definitely later AP2 and perhaps a type CR. Not AP1.
7) Shift knob AP2
8) Top dhas been replaced with a glass w/defroster unit. Appears to be the cheap one and not the Robbins Bestop
9) Pic 17 some type of meter in dash. AP1 did not have a clock. Track timer or clock ( may answer other track oriented question).
Also GPro mount. To me a non issue. This car s robust and can handle the track easily.
10) Critical- Pic 28 shows the top of the radiator uncovered (shroud cover is missing). These are commonly replaced with carbon fiber or aluminum.....so not a flag in itself. But the radiator stays and two "buried bolts (I.e. Normally under shroud) appear to be Silverstone. Pic 30 appears to confirm the car has been resprayed. I would enter the VIn into Honda-Tech.com/vin decoder.php and see what color it was when it left Tochigi.

That could be very possible. The owner showed me pictures of all the vin and said it was original paint. I don't think he really knows much about that s2000 because he didn't realize the rear bumper was painted until I showed him a picture of mine. So probably the owner before him painted it. Here's the vin JHMAP114X1T002294 Honda tech did not show me original color. How do I find out? I ran an autocheck and they reported an accident with a case number. Can I dig deeper and find out what happened?

I also see two rusty bolts to the top left of the belt. The car spent 7 years up north. Im thinking about passing on this deal now. For 13k I want something a little cleaner. It looks great but now im scared of rust. It was probably rear ended.
