Hello guys,
I'm currently looking for a AP2 S2000, preferably MY2006+. I came across this on Ebay, but the price seems too good to be true. I'm aware the seller bought it at a auction and fixed it up a little bit. The carfax is clean and so is the autocheck, but they only report a odometer reading of 77k, while the odometer reading in the auction is 93k.
Can some s2000-meisters take a look at the pictures and give me their opinion?

Thanks in advance!

The FS ad says 93322 miles and the Carfax shows the mileage was 77552 in July of last year at the time of an emissions check. So someone drove it a little less than 16,000 miles in the last year and a quarter. That doesn't seem so bizarre to me, especially not in a state like Texas where the temps support driving a car like this year round. What's the problem with that?

Hello. My dads friend is trying to sell his honda s2000 that has 200k original miles on everything including clutch lol. He commutes a little over 100 miles a day, 5 days a week for 9 years. He posted it up for a crazy price of 6800$ as a start but what is a fair price to sell it for to be fair for both parties? Note that we are in CA.

The car is salvage from being side swiped. No frame damage and the car was repainted at a mediocre body shop. The paint doesnt match original silver but the whole car was repainted. Top Plastic window is ripped and thats about all i know.

Thanks

Salvage title valuation is different than regular. It is worth whatever someone is wiling to pay for it. This is true for anything used but at least there is a price range for normal title vehicles. With salvage, you're best putting it up significantly lower than the cheapest clean title in your area.

I live in CA and am pretty familiar with the used s2000 market around here. Around $9000-11000 is what you will see Clean title AP1 S2000s with less than 140k miles. After 140k miles you are looking at about $8000-9000 for a clean title. Salvage title around here are $7000-7500 BUT they are usually low mileage. When I was in the market 5 months ago (roughly), I was considering a few. One was a 2002 Suzuka blue listed at $7800 but he was willing to let it go for $7000 if I remember corectly. But only had 68k miles. Had no airbags.
Other was a 2003 with 138k miles, listed for $7800 and also willing to let it go for $7000. Did not have airbags. It looks like someone bought this one OR the guy relisted because it is still up in the san diego craigslist section. It is red with black accents. Looks like whoever bought it fixed some stuff, put on a new soft top, etc. and listed it higher but it's been up for quite a few months now.

A black CLEAN title 2000 S2000 with 199k miles with a decent amount of mods and brand new tires, wheels, exhaust, good paint, CF diffuser, intake, etc. in Santa Ana sold for $7500 (during peak summer months) due to the high mileage.

$6500 is more reasonable than $6800. But to start, from a seller's perspective, he has nothing to lose by listing it at $6800 and reducing it after a week if no one replies to his ad. Make sure to post great pictures taken at sunset with a clean car wash. It sounds like among the salvage title cars, his is one of the better ones given that he has records of the damage and receipts. Most salvage titled cars do not have this and are usually resellers who buy from salvage yards with a quick fix to make a few bucks.
I would post pictures of the paperwork. I would also do a compression test and change the spark plugs and post pictures of the results. This is not hard to do and the compression tester can be rented for free at Oreillys. The S2000 is probably the easiest car to do a compression test/spark plug job on. The 200k mile should not be a deterrent for many for the s2000 but it is. My S2000 had 145k miles and had 240 compression on all cylinders. The fact that I posted the results and pictures and had video probably made potential buyers feel better about a higher mileage car.

With salvage title, you really need to work to sell it. But I would not take less than $6000. If he does, I'll buy it at $6000 and I'm in socal. Ha!
Good luck.

Any less than 6000, id probably buy it myself and take it to autocross events and track events. Id slap a plate on my current s2000 as "daily" and slap a plate on that one as "track"... I think 6500 is a good buy. Especially for someone in high school. You should buy it OP, bet dad's friend will work you out a good deal. Offer him 5500!
