AP2's go for more money than AP1's in general, so $16,800 is actually not a bad price for that car by the sounds. This is a rare case where KBB is right on market value--Since it overvalues the AP1, and undervalues the newest AP2's (06-09)--there is bound to be a sweet spot for the 04-05 models in the middle where KBB is fairly accurate.
In the Bay Area it seems low mileage (30-60k) 04-05's are going for $2k to $6k more. There's been a bunch popping up at $18k to even $22k. Ouch. Don't know how much they are actually selling for (one has been listed for quite some time however.)

Looking at this one:

04 Suzuka
43k miles
Near perfect apart from a little curb rash.
No door dings no accidents (all vins match and all gaps are perfect.)
Maintenance records and no mods
He's asking $17500 I got him down to $16800

KBB: 16800
Edmunds: 11,966 ( seems crazy low)
NADA ***TRADE IN**** 13,775

This would be my 3rd S2k (sold the others) so I know what to look for but I'm worried in 2 years this car will be down in the 12k range.
I guess it depends on the market in your area and the people involved, but I just bought a 2003 SSM bone stock with 46k miles near mint condition last weekend for $14,500. KBB seems to be notoriously high when it comes to these cars. Seems like the market is typically a grand or two above NADA. I would offer closer to 15k. Or is that really the difference between AP1 and AP2 in pricing?

Well I went ahead and bought it at 16800. I tried to go a little further at 16500 and apparently that was the breaking point for the seller because he wouldn't even consider it. I just couldn't resist since its in mint shape. Drove around the neighborhood like 5 times this evening for no apparent reason since I was so happy I got it.

I just joined the forum soon to be s2000 owner... I'm looking for opinions on this particular car. Unfortunately it's too far away for me to just take a look at and not buy it. I don't want to waste my time traveling to it.
Here's the description

I would change the interior to all black with paint or trading parts.
I'm worried about the "significant noise" I had him take a video while driving to try and figure out what it is but I don't know. It sounds fine to me. Maybe the video quality

Any opinions would be much appreciated. Thank you

looks to me it was built 12/03.

Looks nice price seems low I would look at it in person. Hope it works out for you.

Seller warns of crankshaft play. Have him video a first morning startup and listen for rod knock. Seller is stating engine may need rebuild with that "crankshaft play" statement. May be why price is so low. May have been run dry of oil and need main rod bearings. Just expect a motor overhaul. The motor may just need the bearings on bottom end. Try to get the price down more. Check compression of cylinders. It still may be worth it if you are willing to do the work on it or pay for it to be done. But dont expect it to be good to go.

I would look at it in person before bidding on it. Welcome and good luck.

If you don't feel like it's worth the time and money to see it in person I would at least pay a mechanic in the area to do a PPI on it and see what they think about the noise (and the rest of the car).

On the surface it looks good, but it definitely falls into the 'almost too good to be true' category. I doubt the owner would throw it up for $10.6k with no serious issues when a car like that would easily go for ~14-15k without any.

Best of luck finding the right car!

I agree humbucker87 I will see about getting a ppi done. The parts that have been replaced mainly the clutch as well as the aftermarket switch that can be seen in one of the pictures by the steering wheel (possibly for neons) makes me think it's been abused. I will ask for a cold startup video as well

Here's the car from when it was for sale on these forums in 2012. Here is the AutoCheck. The car looks like someone slashed the top on the post back in 2012, theft record shows in AutoCheck. The Ebay seller mentioned “possibly crankshaft play, significant noise when driving” and states the car is "as-is" three times.

I'm not the one to ask for buying advice, buy there's some extra info that will hopefully help.

Thats the information I needed to steer me clear of this car. The current owner has only had it a few months to. Thanks people. I will keep on looking
