-Official- Is this car worth it thread - vol. 2
1. Noise issue must be solved.
2. 4 years ago I bought an 04 with 9k miles on it for $18,455, and they were asking $21,500.
3. The dealership gave me their best price b/c it sat all winter and I had another lined up I was going to buy when I found it: 02, 39k miles for $13,500.
4. Would I pay $21k to get 2 years newer, in today's market which is better for selling than 4 years ago: only if I liked the color (which I don't
).
5. My son bought an 04 last summer with 77k miles (perfect shape) for $16,000, so, for me and my formula, to get 5500 less miles ( which is 5.5 yrs. more use) it would be worth $5,500 dollars more = $21,500, but that is just my formula.
6. I do wonder though, since it is a friend trying to sell, if he would have to come down marketing it to the public, which he would unless he's is a tough negotiator.
7. I'm only implying if you wanted to save $500-$1000, if you don't have to have this particular car, which you might if its had stellar care, you might find another at less price and make him match it, or you'll pass.
8. Sometimes, with friends, you are better off paying more rather than beating him down on price however, but, if he has the car for sale for a month and he's getting offers of less, it could loosen him up.
9. I personally would even pay more for a car I knew that it had a particularly good maintenance record, less if it didn't.

I'd say that once the "noise" issue was resolved, $21k is an 'ok" price for that car. The price is not great and not terrible, but definitely resolve any unknown issues before buying anything.

For information's sake, I bought my '05 s2000 with 80k miles for 12.8k from a dodge dealer. I had Infinite Motion check it out after purchase and it appears to be in tip top, the paint does have 10 years of wear though.
