-Official- Is this car worth it thread - vol. 2
Hey guys, first timer here.
Input on this car? I've inquired for more details such as service history, clarification regarding the "2.2L" claim on a 2003, etc.

edit:
OK so I found out the front and rear bumpers have been repaired. The owner was rearended which pushed him forward, causing damage on both front and rear. The repair work is supposedly excellent but I'm a bit put off by the accident history. Then again, I'm looking at a 94k mile car and I don't expect it to be 100% perfect. I plan on driving the thing, not keeping it in a showroom. Still, I think that probably detracts from the value. Any input on the price point?

@BrobS2k: Hi fellow shopper.
From what I'm seeing, that price is a bit on the high side but the car does have the 2-tone interior which I personally think looks awesome, and a brand new clutch. Seller does say the price is firm, though. Maybe one of the real experts will chime in for you.
In the meantime, I'm looking at this one and hoping someone can give some feedback. Original owner, small "hole" in the top which I have yet to see myself. Other than that it was garaged and supposedly had every maintenance that was needed. I'm hoping to check it out in person on Wednesday. http://southjersey.craigslist.org/cto/4359556758.html

Alright so it's been almost 3 years since I sold my 1st S2000 to move to another state and now I'm back in the market for another one. I might have found the perfect one in my area. It's a 2008 in Laguna Blue Pearl which is my favorite color. It has 38,471 miles on it and from the pictures it looks super clean. The dealer posted 2 pictures of some touch up painted area and a small scratch. I ideally want a '06 or '07 because I'm not fond of the wheels and the lack of the windshield tape on '08+ models but it's not that important. The good thing is my APR will be lower for a '08+ when getting outside financing (State Farm).
The dealer (Honda) is asking $26,219 which is several thousands over book value which I definitely will not pay that even if it is my dream S. I want to jump on this one right away but it was just listed for sale 3 days ago and with it already being Spring, I feel that the Dealer wouldn't entertain an offer a few thousands below asking price and just wait for some schmuck to pay asking price.
The average "Clean Retail" value of the 3 book values (KBB, Edmunds & NADA) is $22,268 and that's not Certified Pre Owned because the ad doesn't say it is a CPO. I personally would like to focus on a final out the door price. I'm thinking $23,500 would be my target price.
Given all the details what would you guys offer?
Should I talk to the internet sales manager over the phone and see if we can come to an agreement? That would be ideal because I can then figure out exactly how much I need to finance before I get to the dealer and I can save time. Worst case is he would not take my OTD price of $23,500 over the phone end it there.
Should I show up with a check made out to them and say "this is my one and only offer" and make it clear that I'm serious on buying that day and if they don't like it I walk out?
Like I said before they listed the car for sale only 3 days ago so I feel that they might not take the first offers they get and wait it out since it's Spring.
Should I wait a couple weeks to make a move? I'd hate for someone to snatch it up before I do.

If the dealership is within a driving distance then its better to see the car in person first before making an offer. As a seller I always take the offers made in person more seriously then the one's made over the phone and/or internet even if they're lower.
I just checked Manheim auction price's and your offer is just about right if the car is in average condition(2008/base/38k). If its in good condition, you're looking at about 25,500 retail value. Subtract ~3,500 from them and that's how much they're going at auctions.
But as you pointed out, there is always that one clueless/uneducated buyer paying premium price for a non-premium s2000, hence the s2000 prices as a whole has been skyrocketing for the last few years.
If the car is indeed in good condition i.e. all VIN tags are matching, it drives as it should, there are no abnormal wear and tear, then I would suggest you buy it now instead of waiting any longer because the prices will get higher as Summer nears.

Yes the dealership is within driving distance. The ad says it was a local trade in and going by the 3 book trade in values they have marked it up by anywhere between $5000 to $8600.
I think I'll schedule a test drive and show up with checks already made in their name and see what happens. I might even for for an even $24,000 OTD.
Any other inputs will be appreciated.

$14,400 a fair price for this one assuming the condition is as pristine as he describes? Seems like legitimate 1 owner S2000s are quite rare these days...
I looked at one yesterday that seemed great and the owner swore he purchased it from the original owner, but I ran the carfax and it had traded hands several times and been leased at some point =/ Seeing something has been for sale at 5 different dealerships over the years makes me very nervous.
