okay guys, I need another pulse-check on price:

2003
50K
New soft top (less than 6 months)
$13,200 is the asking price

Thoughts on the price? What would be a fair price, excellent price, or steal!

Let's assume the car is clean, including carmax. No accidents although it may have some reasonable wear for it's age (not sure).

Valuation data I have found for this year and mileage.
NADA values at $14,500 (clean retail)
Kelly Blue values at $18,000 to $18,500 (good to excellent condition)
Edmunds; $13,494 dealer and $12,000 private

By the numbers it looks good, but the car could be in pristine condition or thrashed even if it's had no accidents. BTW, accidents don't always show up on carfax, depends on how the repair was processed.

Thanks, S2Ka. After the dealer advertised the car I referenced above for 13,000, they now decide to raise the price to 16,000. Classic case of bait and switch and unethical business practices Stay away from CenturyBMW in Greenville, North Carolina. Another reminder for "me" to stay away from dealers.

I really don't know why KBB prices are so inflated. It gives sellers a false hope for the amount they can sell their car for, or gives a buyer an inaccurate value of how much they should pay. It just delays the sale of a car priced on their scale, unless an uneducated buyer comes along and makes an impulse purchase.

What that dealer did is ridiculous. Not only is it unethical, it's most likely illegal also (depending on the state).

Good luck on your hunt. Just be patient and wait for the right one to become available.

Thanks for the feedback above. Here's more detail on what happened. I called the dealership this morning after finding the car advertised for nearly $13,000. Salesperson confirmed price was $12,991, as advertised on their website, and said the car was at the shop getting the soft-top replaced and detailed before they could take pictures. Salesperson offered to put the car on hold for me with a $500 refundable deposit. I said I would rather see the pictures first. He said he would take pictures and send it over via email. I sent follow up email minutes after our conversation recapping next steps and the types of pictures I need. Then, I get the reply below.... I removed the salesperson name from the signature, but left the dealer's name in North Carolina.

"I just checked the pricing on the Honda 2000 and want you to know the price
has been adjusted to $15991. I realize the early pricing said $12991. But with our
decision to replace the torn top with a complete new top the price is $15991.
Let me know if you are still interested since it is still the lowest price in the market
for the same vehicle
."

People don't use kbb any longer because it's inaccurate and this is not where you post this kind of thread it will get locked by mods just a heads up. But anywhere between 12-14k for an ap1with a hardtop is a very good deal indeed.
