-Official- Is this car worth it thread - vol. 2
I'm really having a hard time coming up with a fair price on this S2000 I found online. Thinking of calling them up to check it out but their price seems a bit out of reality?
It's a fully boosted 2003 S2k with 85k miles making just a bit over 500 whp. It has a great kit on it and it's owned by the shop that makes the kit. Has the full kit, Haltech PNP unit, supporting mods/gauges.
They're asking 19k for it. I suspect that car, stock, would get around 11k or so around here, so they're asking around $8,000 for the aftermarket parts. Maybe $7,000 if we give them a strong resale value.
My experience selling a heavily modified Honda previously is that you get nowhere near the value of your aftermarket parts. I had over 15 grand in my last boosted vehicle and I sold it for $1,000 above market value. I suspect they can get away with a little bit more since they're the shop that designs/fabs the kit on it, so they're closer to a dealership than a private individual when it comes to selling it. Even still, that makes me think the car is worth more like $13-15,000, though they're probably going to tell me to piss off if I start off several grand below their asking price. Then again, whatever S2000 I buy I will wind up turbo'ing myself, so I can't discount the cost that I will personally incur if I go that route as well. I also have to keep in mind that this car is 500 whp with a stock motor/trans, so who knows how much life is left in those parts.
Thoughts?

Hello!
I'm new to the forum and don't own an s2000 yet, but I need a your help, basically a quick price opinion. My friend has a mint condition bone stock S2000 in her garage. It's from the year 2000 and has about 33k miles on it. It's grey and has the spoiler and soft top. We blue booked it and it came in at around $13950 (Edmonds said like 9k? Whaaat?). She has it because her father unfortunately passed away, so now she wants to get rid of it. It's been garaged its whole life, it's absolutely perfect, pretty much mint showroom condition, engine bay is so clean you eat off of it. She just had the 30k service done on it too. So...
My Question: Is the $14k valuation pretty spot on? I read it's based on where you live (I'm in CA)? Should I offer a little lower amount? It's hard to tell exactly what it's worth when I compared the blue book to all of the huge range of prices I've seen online and on forums ($9000-$23000ish). Is that a fair deal or do you think it might even be worth more because it is in such good condition? Any input is helpful (well almost
!
Anyways, thanks for taking the time to help me. I hope to be a S2000 owner real soon (although I still do love my Celica, but I'm thinking I might fall more in love with the s2000).

With those low miles, assuming car has not been accidents, has had no body / paint work and is mint, then I think 13-14k is a great deal. You can find s2000's with way more miles, body or theft work for 8k, but if you look those cars over and add up everything you would need to fix to make it as nice as yours the price will be more then the one your looking at and it will still have the miles or crash / theft history.
If you like the color, why not get it? Its a friend so I personally would not try to low ball them. It seems it was kept in good condition. Even if you pay a thousand more than some blue book, you will get a great car.
Just buy it and you won't regret it. If you don't, you will always regret it.

Hello and welcome !
I can guarantee you will fall in love with the S and completely forget about your Celica ! LOL
If it really is "mint" as you say then go for it. Prices can vary greatly and the price guides are sometimes way off.
Sounds to me this car has your name on it !!!
Can you take some pics and post them

It's a silver gts from 2000 but you won't like it because of a four letter word: AUTO. But it does handle quite well, even compared to the s2k, since i replaced the springs, shocks and sway bars.
