I asked for extra photos including the driver's seat; some wear is evident, especially on the bolsters closer to the door. It could be better, but it's probably not a deal breaker right?

Looks like a nice car & good deal. But you will want to test drive and inspect carefully. Do consider a pre-purchase inspection. You might reach out to the local S2000 group in the area the car is being sold in, in the Forums here. Somebody can probably recommend a very knowledgable person to inspect. If you don't know these cars very very well, I highly recommend a good inspection.

Hey All!
Long time car enthusiast, potential first time Honda owner!!
2000 S2000 Black, 81k miles, fair/poor condition, dents, tired suspension (stock with lowering springs), aftermarket exhaust that is ugly and lopsided, new top with glass, interior fair except aftermarket radio thrown in without correct brackets, check engine light for o2 sensor, about a year left on tires, front bumper not original to car (yellow original painted black barely noticeable, no accidents (carfax).
$8,500. Owner agreed to let me have it inspected on a lift in a shop. Is the low mileage and price worth the elbow grease needed? This would be a weekend, car show, autocrosss, some days to work car. I feel confident I could fix all the gremlins on the car over a course of time, just not sure how much money I would need to spend.

Do you have any pictures to better assess the condition? Initial reaction is that this is not a screaming deal. While the miles are low relative to the year it sounds like the car was abused/not taken care of. Thus, the price seems high based on your overall description. No accidents, but the front bumper is not original????? Is this a private sale? Maintenance records? Also keep in mind that AP1's have the potential valve retainer issue...a lot of discussion on this topic. Because I didn't know how my '02 was previously driven I had the intake valve retainers replaced [cost $430] for peace of mind. And yes, the retainers taken out of the car were perfect, no cracks. Here is what the owner told me over the phone:
It is stock with no accidents and original paint. No rust, dents or scratches.
Everything works as it should.
Tune up and valve adjustments have recently been done with maintenance records.
No oil leaks. Engine and tranny are strong.
New brakes and tires.
New battery.
The top has tears where it folds, been temporarily patched (probably needs replacing).
Front left corner bumper has spider web due to bumping into something.
KBB says private party excellent is $8540
KBB says fair purchase price is $8827
Edmunds says clean car price is $11,047
Please let me know what you guys think it is worth.

What would you guys pay for this? It's not very likely that I would end up trying to buy it, but its less than 5 miles from my house.. so I might just go meet the guy. If anyone wants me to check out the car for them, I'd be glad to.

Hey guys! Theres a 2001 Berlina Black for sale in my area. Private Party sale, on CL.
Clean title, its got 142k on the odo.
Cons:
Cracked windshield (roughly 6 in)
Hardtop alignment is a little off so drivers side window hits the top. (Its a mugen hardtop rep)
SoftTop is still attached but has slight tear on rear window.
Its all stock other than the radio head unit. Paint is decent, few scratches, and a small dent by the gas cap.
He is asking 9k.
What do you guys think is a fair offer?
