-Official- Is this car worth it thread - vol. 2
So I've got the money saved, got the time, found a decent vehicle (I'm not looking for something AMAZING, I plan to track and autocross the car alot), and will go look at it tonight.
2003 S2000
Silverstone
140,000 miles
Has been in one right side impact, carfax says 'severe' but no structural damage. I plan to examine the underside very well, but I'm assuming that by no structural damage they mean no frame damage.
2 owners
good interior and exterior
has the whole engine replaced at 40,000 miles, but it doesn't say why, anyone know anything about this?
So is there some reason the engine would have been replaced at 40,000 miles in a 2003 S2000?
THanks!

Looked at the car last night. I spoke with the dealership that had the car for inspection and they said the timing chain tensioner was bad and they were replacing that, as well as the convertible top (it had the usual tears in it). I saw the right side, no issues with the suspension, all looked straight and everything to me. I didn't get to drive it because it was at the dealership for service still (having the tensioner and top put on today), but I looked at it very well, got to hear them drive it out of the shop and outside the gate so I could see it (it was 6:50 and they closed it up at 7) and it sounded like the tensioner was the issue. I spoke with the owner and it's actually for 9500, including the new top, tensioner, and whatever service it needs. I will not be able to look at it to drive until Sunday so I'll probably put 3-500 down on it and do that this weekend.

Should I go ahead and pick this up, or wait till winter time? I'm not in a hurry, but this does look like a rather good deal.
I simply need a car by December.
And yes I was dumb enough to sell my previous s2k for a 600rr. Ownership of the bike was indeed awesome, but waking up with cold sweats of your previous love isn't. Don't do it guys!
Your feedback will determine if I will purchase it tomorrow.

Almost all S2000 rear bumpers don't fit perfectly where the body meets the bumper under the tail light. If that's the only problem it's an easy fix with a sheet metal screw, there are some how-to threads about getting it to fit properly.

The price might go down a little in winter, but S2000 prices have been going up lately and if you wait who knows how many people will test drive it between now and then and it will probably gets washed several times -- which if not done carefully can wreck a black car.
It really depends on how much you really want that particular car. And if you don't mind being without an S over the winter.

Woah I didn’t know..
I thought only CR’s had that misalignment problem cuz of the wing/downforce.
Thanks for replying to my questions.
I can wait though that way I keep saving money and I really want a BB with the black/red interior.
until we drove around a dealership and saw that almost all were like that. It's a Honda not an Acura. The fasteners are not a tight fit.
Ifsomeone knows the link to the fix please send it tome. As for finding a nice S2K be patient, you will find one with low miles and well
cared for but it will take patience. MY only regret is waiting so long to buy one, by the way I flew to Utah and drove it back
to Texas so you may need to travel to find that unabused car, but well worth it. It's a weekend car only and driving my S2k is the high point of my weekend.
Hi all. Long time lurker, first time poster. I am getting ready to sell my 97 M3 and get into an S. I found one in my area that's in my price range. The dealer had a compression test performed, and I am waiting on the results.
I'd love your thoughts on the purchase price. It's about $600 over KBB, but the car seems fairly priced based on others in the area. Thanks in advance.

Ok I am considering 2 S2000's to purchase. Both are a little bit over 5hrs away from me so just going to check them both out isn't really realistic. I was looking for some opinions on the asking price of the 2.
The first one is a 2002 black on black with 93,000 miles, he is asking $11,700. He said it has new tires and top. The car looks to be in good condition from the pics, just a little normal wear on the drivers seat. He is the original owner.
EDIT - the guy said that he would let it go for $11,000.
The second one is a 2001 red on black with 62,000 miles, he is asking $12,300. He says that is needs nothing but there is a little dent on the passenger fender that could probably be removed by paint less dent removal. He has had the car for 6 months, so he basically bought it for the summer and is now selling.
Both are completely stock, I like the 2002 better because of the glass window and little better interior and speakers.
What do you guys think and what would you offer?

I'm seeing an S2000 tomorrow and trying to see how much to offer on this car:
2002 S2000 with 61250 miles. 1 owner. Clean Carfax.
Bone stock. Top and seat are in good condition. New tires.
Exterior: 9.5/10
Interior: 9/10

First off, I'm new to the forum. I've been looking for an S2000 for the last couple weeks, doing research and all. I found an 2004 with 90k miles selling for $14000. I just sold my last car because at 88,000 miles it was just falling apart and I was constantly having to take it to the shop despite keeping it well maintained at all times. I know it's a Honda, but will I have to worry about taking this car into the shop often at that sort of mileage or do s2000's hold up just as well as any other Honda?
