I bought and mounted a set of Blizzaks LM-32 for my BMW last week. Just in time. They handled the snow beautifully this afternoon. I'm very happy with these tires in the snow. (My BMW doesn't have x-drive. It wasn't available with the manual transmission in 2012. It's rear wheel drive.)

The car came with summer tires on 18 inch wheels, but because the roads here in New Jersey are so badly broken up I bought a set of 17" inch wheels and regular profile 17 inch Blizzaks (not low profile). I'm tired of bending wheels on the potholes.

We only had about 5 inches of snow on the ground, but the worst of the storm is expected after midnight with blizzard conditions from 4 am to noon tomorrow.

It started snowing around noon. Not a lot of accumulation, but the roads were getting slick by 4:00 PM when I left work. Still only a couple inches so far. The heavy stuff will come later tonight.

It is a LONG storm. State of emergency has been declared. Everyone except emergency employees are to be off the road by midnight. My daughter in law just got in from work, so now I will relax a bit. All my chickadees are in their nests and no one is working tomorrow. Wednesday is questionable too as this storm is going to linger

Here's a clip from a Boston news station.

Watching the national news tonight they sure made it sound like end of the world is coming with that east coast storm. I hope it doesn't end up being as bad as they predict, but better safe than stranded!

The media LOVES this stuff. However, there were lessons learned during the Blizzard of 1978. The forecasting then was not what it is now. People were trying to get home from work. As the storm escalated, more people headed out clogging the highways. People were stranded, the highways were littered with cars. My sister was stranded in Rhode Island barely 35-40 miles away. Banks were closed, businesses were closed for days. National Guard was brought in to actually move/remove snow.

BUT we have many storms that don't amount to much except an opportunity for a media frenzy, and a run on milk and bread at the supermarket.

From Wiki Many people were stranded in their cars along roads and highways throughout the New England region. People perished on I-95 outside Boston as snow piled high enough to prevent poisonous exhaust fumes from escaping from their idling vehicles. I-95 eventually had to be evacuated by cross-country skiers and snowmobilers. More than 3,500 cars were found abandoned and buried in the middle of roads during the clean-up effort. This figure does not include the countless other vehicles buried in driveways, on the sides of streets, and in parking lots. Other transportation links were disrupted and shut down region-wide, stranding public transit commuters in city centers.

Snowplows were also among vehicles stranded in traffic as the snow continued to fall.

Well, let's hope it isn't like the blizzard of 1888 either.

Hey, Murphy, what about us, on the west coast? My day started with a low of 68 degrees Fahrenheit, with gusty Santa Ana winds, and overcast. By 2pm it started to drizzle and kept at it for 5 hours, non stop (!), and then dropped all the way down to the current temp of 55 degrees Fareinheit. Oh my.

I'm really concerned and care about you all in the snow and blizzard areas. I'm just being a putz, here in so Cal. You know me by now.

The mayor of NYC closed down the streets and the subway at 11 last night. I think that was a first. Apparently in a storm in 2010, cars were littered everywhere downtown, making it difficult for emergency vehicles to respond.
