You need a v2h charger which are in their infancy currently

As I use about 5kwh a day on average in the car it makes a lot of sense for me, plus I WFH

these guys crow about it, I enquired but no joy to date

Yours has the PEN built in? The Ohme old one we have doesn't, sparky told me in worst case the car can become live.. like No 5 out of that movie, a little running around but I think friendly sentient with that face?

Think newer Ohme ones do too. It's no big deal, a little box on th wall in me garage, it also has a CT clamp monitoring overall load too

V2H chargers at scale could be a game changer solving the need for storage of intermittent generation. I'd say this is well known amongst people who think about these things, although I am surprised there is no product you can buy atm. Can't be rocket science to design and make such a kit.

The new American Ford pickup lets you do this. You can charge it up, drive it to your cabin, run the cabin off it / charge it back up off Solar at the cabin and then drive home. It's the way forward but it's NOT cheap.

There is no need for the tech to be pricey really. And if you accept a.leccy car then you took one up the ass and paid for the battery. House batteries are £500 per kWh ish so the e is worth £17k in that view.

Our Swedish friend is bang on, there are approaching 1m BEVs on UK roads already, each I imagine has more storage than an e at 35kwh, that is a lot

As ever it's quite divisive but if the load on the grid at peak can lean on the BEV hive storage..

Alas our gov are dysfunctional wankers so the chance of progress is close to zero

I find that I am right in many things as I am getting older.

Sort of related to saving money , our bungalow had some insulation improvements some years ago by a previous owner , clearly a government grant for loft there was some sort of certificate nailed to a truss in the loft , that was very poor hit and miss, certainly not dealing with the issues between loft and cavity walls , lots of cold bridges.

the cavity walls also had some white fluff blown in , no idea who by , this is extremely hit n miss , every time I had made a new hole it appears to be missing and now fitting a conduit up cavity for the car charger cable I find it’s mainly missing from one kable end of the house , total waste of time , I do wonder about the idea of insulating older houses, and how efficient it actually is !

Government will write cheques and cow boys will make a mint , most likely the ministers and mps taking a back hander to

we had cavity wall blown in on the old gaf, 70s wonder.

They drill round the outside, start low, blow it in (shredded loft insulation) till it comes out the holes.

Higher holes, repeat.

It helped, that place was like a fridge when we bought it.

It's bloody hard making old houses energy efficient, we loaded up on loft insulation, put in a new boiler and removed the vent for the old back boiler but the chimney draw was unreal so I used to block it up (we didn't use the fire). The windows were dire too

our new place is much bigger (new) but uses less gas I think

I am sat here thinking of ways to get my AVG price per kWh under 20p

Like Hans I'll be round the gaffe flipping switches lol

I am a turner off of switches here , but don’t go to the lengths of worrying about standby.

worst thing about my bungalow construction , build circa 1990, was the cold bridge, outer skin of bricks stops at soffit , inner blocks carry on up to ceiling height 175mm one course of blocks , zero insulation there and the cavity closed witha course of bricks for some reason , so a cold bridge l I have removed this course and insulated with celotex up to ceiling height . Also now the entire loft space has had timber battens across the trusses followed by 100mm celotex , the battens allowed for wires and pipes the original rock wool filled in between trusses , bonus you can walk around on the Celotex ! Carefully
