Honda e
Had project when working over in west london loved sitting in Gail’s mid morning with the ladies of a certian age using thier laptops , used mine to , often wondered if they were all on dating apps ! Lol
As my Honda 'e' approaches 3 years and first MOT my plan is to keep the car until death do us part. It drives lovely, occasional long trips can be managed.
I paid £33k including 5 years servicing for £500 cost of home charger £500 plus I added extras e.g. arm rest. Currently on autotrader same colour and age dealers selling price is about £22k so would assume buy-in £18k so depreciation has been £5k/year in round figures. Honda tech I expect protects your battery better than most. Now they have stopped making the 'e' (?) who knows it could become collectable. Next step change is 2025 when road tax becomes payable and the servicing deal ends plus possibly tyres (on age not wear). Pollen filter, brakes fluid / wear, trans (diff) fluid are all there is. I am not a DIYer but I am already sounding out our Smart car indy guy who likes odd ball cars. Given my low mileage (2,000 a year) we will probably end up with what he does for the Smart, annual A/B small/big service. I am thinking (A) £100 pollen filter and visual checks then maybe (B) £200 the 'big' years with fluid changes although brake fluid ages with time not use. Honda would want probably £300 every year.

I will do it all myself from the point the plan expires because there is nowt to do
I reckon £20 a year average
excluding brakes, tyres
It is Uber cheap to run, that renno should be the same and probably has a longer warranty than tight arse honda 3 years (it's 7 or 8 for the batt)
I might change it if unit gets too big for the back seats.. currently okish lol.. that EV6 would be next best thing I think. Tesla not for me, I don't like German or french (racist) due to bad exp..

I wear tweed jackets (without elbow patches, but I have them on my cashmere sweaters). I do wear loafers but normally timberlands. I sometimes wear coloured trousers - green, red, yellow. Just to annoy the locals.
Back to topic Honda e:NY1. I guess OK for the yummy mummy school run, but otherwise about as interesting as going to Currys to buy a fridge. Or Ikea.

But noone bought the e which had some flair. Commercial flop.
I suspect most of the sheepy crowd who do buy a BEV will go for the one with the biggest range. Then use it to go to Tesco local.
mate just leased a Y.. I don't know Y
Sorry , but range is one of the key decisions to make is range !
we certainly looked at that because we will need range on occasion although I accept planning is the key. Tomorrow she’s wandering around including a trip to ELy and Thetford, she is comfy with the availabe range showing this afternoon of 150miles , no amount of logical comment would reduce her anxiety , me I would be fine with 8O miles , but then I have always played petrol pump roulette! Lol. Sure this will improve as time goes by and she gets used to charging away from home and keeping it topped up. Had 15kw from Solar today as a top up.
i thought the E , was great in terms of design , but the range is woeful , sorry but it is , it’s a town car , if it had 200mikes maybe 150 real world we would certainly test drive it and considered the car. I personally loved it both externally and internally along with most of its tech.
But much of the choice was down to the wife( her mums estate paying for her new car) , and the Reno ticked her boxes with a lot of the design etc winning over the Nero,

It's clearly not for me
But folk who buy a massive lump, a model X weighs 2.5t, and then rarely if ever use that range are clearly stupid
I have charged the e away from home on 2 journeys this year, will probably do so twice more.
The proposition was the average driver covers 12k a year (I do half that in this car).. that's what, 230 miles a week or 30 odd miles a day
But everyone asks what is the range, it's important to that mass market of people who don't really think how they will use it and what they need
As I said, c80 miles is a schlepp for me, in this country, I wanna get out, stretch my legs and take a break. Even at speed limit its 70 mins and who manages that on England on average?
the rear legroom will kill it but I might keep the e and get her something bigger to accommodate kiddo and days
(And yes Rog, we plan to get another maybe next year when jnr is settled into school and Jessie is 5)

I'll wait with BEV until there are better battery technologies - such as solid state, available. The current technology makes the cars very heavy (because of the cooling system). Heavy cars don't do well handling wise, destroy roads, eat tyres. And will use much more leccy.
The ultimate BEV for me would be a hatchback at say 1,200 kg with a range of 300 miles and a price of £ 25k. In today's money. I can wait a few years as our current fleet of cars are in fine fettle.

I suppose I would be expected to justify the e's relatively poor range. However, that is the point: it's all relative.
Any trip > range you have to make/plan stop(s). What a longer range does is let you drive non stop for a longer time and make fewer stops.
If the working range were 150 miles my planned stops for later this week (trip to Longleat from NR20 4) might be a little different. On the other hand maybe not. I would still go cross country not via M11/M25/M4 - motorways are just boring as hell even at the best of times, risking mega traffic holdups. And abolishing the hard shoulder only increases RTA death rates (whoever thought that one up should have to go and test them 'live'!) Legs of 100 miles rather than 70 miles between chargers MIGHT allow a better plan. At normal speeds I suppose that could mean 3 hour legs not 2 hours. But this trip of 225 miles it could not even then be a 1-stopper. A 2-stopper might just be doable. In my case it will be 3 stops 2 legs of circa 70 miles one of about 50 (to arrive with spare range) and one of 35 miles (to Barton Mills so we 'leave Norfolk' with a full tank). To be honest driving for 2 hours on normal roads at normal speeds, taking in the views and the countryside / town features, suits us nowadays. No longer the S2000 drive to the max (and even that was 'motorways to be avoided' transport!)
Hey you're right I'm only justifying the lack of range or at least how any range is worked round.
But the reality is we don't do a lot of long trips or take touring holidays.
Mostly we potter round our local 'city' of Norfolk.
Get to CHIPPO's and back tho
Nottm's I would need a full overnight granny charge or summat
@tjockhult agree but time ain't on my side. It will be Chinese made though and it will spy on you

It's an interesting conundrum.
My Golf has done <5,000 miles per year since I bought it, and most of the time does <20 mile journeys in and around London. Drudgery, but the ride is good and it has all the toys.
A leccy car, even with crappy range could do all of this, 97%+ of my driving.
Even "longer" trips to Oxford, or Baskingstoke (mostly for dancing) would be just about doable (120 miles there and back)
Going further afield, to see friends on the south coast >200 miles, it gets tricky without a recharge, and I'm not prepared to connect to friends' leccy.
As memntioned in my "today I bought" thread, we just did a trip oop north to Newcastle, 280 miles or so, no charging at our hotel car park.
Next day, another 60 miles, no charging anywhere. Next day 150 miles to the Yorkshire Dales, again no charging available at our hotel.
Coming home 220 miles, with one 5 min stop.
Not really doable without some planning/inconvenience.
But then, it's once a blue moon.
Once the Golf gets to 10, it'll be 7 in November, I'll start to think about replacing it. ULEZ will eventually get it, but for now it'll do, and it's not depreciating much.
