Honda e
Don't say I didn't warn you (manual gearbox) trouble is we are spoilt by the S2000 gearbox.
Give it some credit it was an easy safe drive commuting. My final M3 lost £6k in 3 years but given current market conditions you are doing well.

My last S (and it will be the last) lost £250 in 3 years and 2k miles. I think it will appreciate and cover the cost of turning into mint condition. I did not have the skills.
I can actually get in and out of the e Honda without a struggle

Best car i ever owned. Last car of that type i will own. The current shape MX-5 are a very comfortable place to sit but like you, our 'family' transport needs to change. It's ok to have £1500 invested in the Del Sol but her back and my ears do not need another loud, low and uncomfortable car.
. your ST has fared far worse i expect. Buying new is a depreciation nightmare though i agree.my rule of thumb for used is c£2-3k a year for normal ish cars so the BM did well. My 2001 S2 is probably worth £9k in current market, maybe a bit more, so lost c£11k (iirc - i cant actually remember what i paid for it) in 18 years. that's exceptional but obviously the longer you keep a car the lower the depreciation is likely to be on an annualised basis.
if i do buy cash i'm betting against Honda who say the car will be worth c£15k in 3 years.. pretty steep depreciation. The issue i had is they want £3k in interest to get that protection with PCP, feck dat.
here's an indication of how well Tesla's batteries last.. summary is pretty well and way beyond the sort of miles i'll do. But it also points out that regular rapid charging fvcks up your battery. and charging to 100% ****s up your battery

https://electrek.co/2018/07/17/tesla...miles-3-years/
so my initial 3kw charging will be nice and gentle to the battery perhaps
off to buy the bits from screwfux today
the numbers on this car will absolutely never add up for my use, i have looked quite a lot at that, partly because i do that kind of thing in my job and have idle fingers atm, partly out of curiosity. I dont enjoy the process of buying or selling cars. I have one i had for 18 years, one i bought broken about 4 years ago, one i bought 8 years ago and never really gelled with... sold a golf a few years ago but thats probably the only one in 10 years, it was white goods but dull as ditchwater to me (far better than a kumkwat but less reliable)
ultimately the e (and other e cars) is expensive to buy but very cheap to run as that Tesla linked aludes. you could buy a Vx or a Renno instead but who would? not i.
if i buy i would do so in the hope of keeping it till the battery was ****ed and then replace it
(the battery that is)

If they are being sensible they will make the battery packs removable / upgradeable but i don't know how good Honda is these days. I know some folk have done stuff to the original Civic Hyybrids where they've fiddled with dead stock batteries etc. Maybe this will be the same.
We did look at an i3 but that sewing machine that starts up when it runs out of juice sounds ruddy awful.
I do think the E is lovely looking thing though and it will be interesting to see what the prices at 1 and 2 years old are like.

Approaching 75 yo next birthday I bought for the looks and tricks, easy drive and getting in and out readily. Long distance travel remains the job of our fossil burners
It will cost £1 per mile (PCP) at the 6,000 miles agreed including £3.5k interest, low maintenance costs and pennies for fuel. Just a tad under £300/month to pay for three years. At the end of that hopefully lots of fun. If my licence is extended another three years then the next three years will be cheaper if I exercise the buy option for £15.5k otherwise they can take it back (not yet factored in the cost of insurance in this).
The Smart - now not depreciating more than £1k/year - works out as £2 per mile at 4,500 miles although the miles should drop.
My VERY seldom driven S2000 was costing me roughly £3 per mile 500 miles/year. The last M3 was surprisingly similar despite double the engine
Looking on the bright side if we keep it! battery preservation here I come.
