another blown 2nd gear thread
I'm saying that "worry" is not digital. It's not about whether you're worried, it's about how worried you should be. That's why the fast / slow comment was silly.
I personally wouldn't boost a car I wasn't financially prepared to support and upgrade the car in all needed respects. I don't like the "cross the fingers and pray" method of building.

PPG Gear Set Price List:

Then slap an install price on that too.
FBM V160 Conversion Kit Cost:
Brand New Getrag V160 from King's Performance $5595.00
Clutch Masters V160 Clutch Kit $2295.95
FBM V160 Conversion Kit $975.95
Total = 8866.90
I don't really have an answer for you, because I'm going through that dilemma right now. Unfortunately there is no cheap solution to Transmission problems ATM, The S2000 transmission was never designed to take that kind of abuse. I just bought the FBM 5.9 rear diff kit and the next weakest link is the transmission. I know some have had luck on the stock transmissions with over 500whp. But are probably just playing russian roulette.
I'd hate to spend $2k on a twin disk clutch, just to have the transmission fail, just to buy another $2k clutch for the FBM V160 swap and be 2k deeper in the hole than if I would have just done it right the first time. I guess since I've already started walking down the path, might as well just suck it up and just start saving. :sigh:
FYI, for anyone that cares the New Getrag V160 on Kings webiste is "on sale" for $6,750, not $5595
i find it just plain retarded that the s2000 diff and trans are just garbage. I rebuild acura/honda 5 and 6 speeds daily. For sake of agrument ive built bseries that have hit 9's with stock gearing non treated, with 600+ whp. The first day i drove my s2k it was grinding 2nd. I bought it from a 70 year old man! Terrible design.

Interesting info in this thread.....
A lot of people throwing around PSI instead of hp or better yet TORQUE to measure the strength of the tranny. Who cares if you limit boost to 10psi or 15psi in the first gear, psi isn't measuring torque that the tranny is seeing. I'd be more curious to see people's dynographs to figure out how strong this thing is.
I'm boost limited in the first two gears myself but I chose those numbers based on wheel torque not just a specified amount of boost.
Giving away 1st/2nd gear hp because our tranny can't handle is is pretty lame. Though it's better than giving away hp in 2nd and 3rd gear or so on.
