The reason why I ask by the way is because the Seibon CF replica is much cheaper than the OEM Honda one and provides the same function. Also can I add my own backing plates of sorts to reinforce the trunk lid so I don't have to buy the reinforced CR trunk lid. Seems like a gray area since if you allow someone to fabricate any spoiler they want then they'll need to fabricate a way to secure it which I assume could mean some thicker backing plates to avoid flex.

Re: Fenders
Fenders can only be modified outboard of the vertical plane of the hub face. The rules are pretty clear here. You can cut the fender completely off if you want as long as its outboard of the hub face.

A. Fenders and bumpers may be modified for tire clearance. This includes
the portion of a hood which serves as a fender/wheel well,
where applicable. This does not permit modifications to the chassis
or bodywork inboard of the vertical plane of the hub/wheel mounting
face (at rest, with front wheels straight ahead). Flares may be added
although tires may extend beyond the bodywork. Replacement of
complete hood, flared fenders, or quarter panels is prohibited. Plastic
and rubber wheel well splash shields may be modified for tire
clearance and for installation of fender flares as allowed herein.

rules....

http://www.scca.com/solo/content.cfm?cid=44517

Seibon CR wing looks legal the way I read the rules. IMO, adding some extra backing plates to safely mount it wouldn't be a problem. Be careful tho, IMO it wouldn't be legal to try and partially convert a non CR trunk to a CR trunk with the extra side supports and stuff. It's a slippery slope when using UD/BD so I'll always recommend using the least amount of grey area possible.

I think you'd get more benefit from a properly built spoiler than a CR wing for autox, at the detriment of the wrong kind of attention when driving it on the street

Earlier in this thread I link to a really old SCCAForums post I did about wheel and tire sizes. A lot of that is still valid, SCCAForums is down for me right now, maybe I should just move that info directly into this thread...

I think copying and pasting that info here would be useful. sccaforums unfortunately has been really unstable lately.

I agree with the proper spoiler idea though but the wing is really only being added to my car to help a bit at the track for >80mph sweepers. the CR wing is the best compromise I can come up with for a dual duty car. For solo only I think i'd actually prefer no wing and just save the weight.

The CR wingis really simple to remove with 6 10mm nuts. not sure if the replica wing is the same, we estimated the OEM wing weighed approx 10lbs.

The replica mounts to the same holes and weights approximately the same I believe. It's not a dry carbon piece so it's not any lighter. Removing my current wing is just 4 10mm nuts so maybe I'll just keep it and put it on for track days and stay wingless the rest of the time. What do you guys use to plug the holes?

Same color tape or vinyl seems to be most common.

vinyl tape and a 1 inch hole puncher (for the apr wing half inch hole puncher should be plenty), I use that on my STi when I take the wing off.
