Why? Are there cars running in BSP at nats with STR trim?
I wouldn't know... but I can say our tire choice for STU was neither dependent on weights nor contingency.

All 255's

Hankook 26lbs 9/32nds
Kumho 25lbs 8/32nds
Yokohama 27lbs 10/32nds
Bridgestone 26lbs 9/32nds
Dunlop 28lbs 10/32nds
Toyo 26lbs 8/32nds

I think you'd be wasting your money if you run the Dunlops or R1R's at this point...except in the rain for the R1R's - everyone should have a set of those as DD's for rain backups
Wow, didn't realize the Dunlops were already getting beat out, or are you basing your comment on weight? I'm pretty happy with mine, but I don't have much to compare to. Anyone know how the R-S3 compares? What attracted me to the Dunlops is the performance you get for the the price of the tire, but Tire Rack says the Hankooks are cheaper.

I'm excited for this class (and finally lowering my car because I'm a ricer ), but I'm aiming to be competitive on a local level and not spend a ton of money so tire price plays a significant role.

ST-R is a new street touring class. Reading ST rules will tell you what's allowed and what's not as far as modifications. The only thing different for STR is cars allowed, and Tire/wheel widths.

Good tire discussion, thats pretty much what I was looking for. I ran re-01r last year and liked them but damn did I pay a lot for those. Wondering what tires were worth it basically and got some good choices to look into so thanks!

Can't wait to start on my STR build after Nats.

Will be trying 255 AD08s, Moton shocks with some reasonably stiff spring rates. I wonder if we can get it to be quicker than my ST car on course.. might take a while. Never really felt like my STX car was quicker than the ST car.

Wonder how the 2010 pax number will be for this class?

I think out of the box STR is going to be faster than ST. STU? Maybe.
