hahaha, I hope he was joking. Now I'll be convinced the S2000 is slow.

Meh, if we get lucky he will overshoot. In my car I can put the power down real well in 1st, so if he keeps it below about 47mph for most of the course, we will be in VTEC all day! hahaha

[QUOTE=Forcednduckshn,Sep 22 2010, 06:27 PM]The AP2 accelerates significantly better, especially in the lower speed ranges...even my butt dyno said so!

I just find it funny.

We're kind of depressed after looking at it; he's trying to convince me to buy a CR (or a Corvette ).
Personally it makes me want to buy an elise! lol.

I actually was working on a similar thing tonight. Here's AP1 vs. 06-08 MX-5. I wanted to take gearing and weight out of the analysis, so I plotted acceleration of the whole car assuming they're accelerating in a straight line. The acceleration is calculated from the published gear ratios, mass of each car, torque and rpm from dyno plots, and 255/40/17 tire size. The dynoplots are actually both from dynapacks, and they're both tuned pretty well for STR, so they should be as comparable as realistically possible outside of two people going on the same day to the same place. The AP1 is Jim Reyenga's and the MX-5 is a plot I got from DPtune for their reflashed 2006 MX-5 with STR-like mods. The 2009 miata should be very similar although with a little bit higher redline (the one plotted had redline raised to 7000).

I started to put rolling resistance and drag into it as well, but it seemed kind of silly after doing the initial calculations. The rolling resistance as an acceleration will be equal between the two, and the drag will very slightly favor the S2000 but both effects will be small and pretty equal between the cars. So since it's late I'm just going to post it without these things since they don't really change anything.

For weights I used 2650 lbs for the AP1 and 2350 for the MX-5. Sound about right?

I'll maybe add the AP2 later if I can get a comparable dyno plot. Anyone have STR tuned dyno plots for an AP2? What weight should I use?

So here's the plot:

It's quite interesting that the S2000 in 2nd at low rpm really isn't much different than the MX-5. Also, the acceleration of the MX-5 in first dominates up to 33 mph, although after that the S2000 can stay in first and be much faster, then shift to 2nd and be in vtec.

And for my final conclusion - I definitely need to learn to get better at downshifting into 1st if I'm going with an AP1.

But that's half the fun
The other half is driving an hour just to be able to drive around some cones for 3 minutes

Not really sure why I like it so much

^^^ I so agree! Usually about 3 hours into the drive of a big event, I start to ask why I go through all the trouble for just a few minutes of driving. But once I get there with all the other and even more crazy autoX people, it reminds me that a big part of this is the overall experience and social aspects. Of course, I love to win, but that takes a lot of time, talent and often money... which I wish I had more of.
