S2000 STR prep resource
To be fair to brian, and to contextualize the statement, brian has two fully built ST cars, an 89 civic si, as well as a hard top 328is, also fully built. Both cars are on motons, with some other goodies.
I think brian may be one of the first to dot all the i's and cross the t's. I just hope he can get some help in making sure the recipe is working together.

Can't wait to start on my STR build after Nats.
Will be trying 255 AD08s, Moton shocks with some reasonably stiff spring rates. I wonder if we can get it to be quicker than my ST car on course.. might take a while. Never really felt like my STX car was quicker than the ST car.
Wonder how the 2010 pax number will be for this class?

Auto-x is about 90-95% driver. Setup will only get you so far. And while he may be the 1st to set it up, no one can say it's 'right' until the car trophies and/or wins at nationals.
And not to disparage Brian... his particular cone-a-thons that keep him in the mid/back pack of results don't help things!

I have started getting better at not hitting cones.I am actually not going to be driving the car for at least the first part of the season, and will let my wife and her co-driver Jay Parcon (who is awesome with setup) take a try at it first, as I am really liking the civic now, and will let them work on the setup first. I will just facilitate putting parts on the car for now.
I hope the 6ULR wheels come out soon, as I need the Volk wheels to stop tempting me. I had a set of 17x9 Gunmetal CE28N wheels on my old car, and I miss them.

Brian - any particular reason you're going with ad08's?
I ran a few sets of Toyos and Bridgestone tires on the ST Civic over the last couple of seasons, and don't see a need for the R1R on the S, as I think that the AD08 will be better in the rain at full tread. As for the RE-11, I think it will be a great choice as well for the dry, but not as good in the rain. We use 3/32nd shaved RE-11 tires on the civic in the dry, and full tread R1Rs in the wet.
I am curious about the new Hankook tires, but the wife is set against them and the Kumhos. I drove an MX-5 with Nitto NT-05 tires, but didn't really feel anything special about them.
Best of luck with your build!

Wow, didn't realize the Dunlops were already getting beat out, or are you basing your comment on weight? I'm pretty happy with mine, but I don't have much to compare to. Anyone know how the R-S3 compares? What attracted me to the Dunlops is the performance you get for the the price of the tire, but Tire Rack says the Hankooks are cheaper.
I'm excited for this class (and finally lowering my car because I'm a ricer
), but I'm aiming to be competitive on a local level and not spend a ton of money so tire price plays a significant role.

Don't lower it too much! Bumpsteer is not much fun and the STR class does not allow for the fixes to this issue.
My car is pretty damn low and I have no such issues. But its an AP2.
And yes you could probably fix it in STR - just not with the currently available aftermarket pieces.
If someone would make some adjustable upper control arms in the rear - you could use those to adjust camber and then tune the lower arms to be in harmony to minimize bump steer.

...Really though, I've got an AP2, and from what I understand, the bump steer problem was fixed with AP2's.@TheNick:
You mentioned running 850f/600r spring rates. Is this on a car you drive frequently? How's the ride? The S2K is my only car, so I can't get too crazy with spring rates.
