I have not experienced or heard of anyone experiencing inside rear wheel lift in STR. Balancing out a loose back end seems to be the primary concern in STR. I agree that you don't want too much, just enough to get the job done.
The STR cars I have driven are loose before picking up the inside wheel. My CR did it at Blytheville on the kooks, but that was with a soft B-Stock setup that could use some stiffening up for STR. I would rather have wheel lift than no rear stability though.

BTW, the AP1 is the S2000 for STR IMO. Proper power delivery > Power ... you can keep you foot in it longer without upsetting the traction.

So I have been poking through this thread for the last couple months as a resource to prep for STR next season. So I figure I would share our set-up and ask a couple questions as well.

Coming to STR from an ST EF Civic so it is going to be a big change.

Set-up thus far on our 02 Ap1

Engine:
11,xxx miles stock engine
TODA header
Berk Cat
Burns muffler with dump before axle
Full T1R pulley set (Crank and accessories)
3'' intake with flow stack
SAFC Neo
Megan mounts

Yet to tune it or even complete the bolt on. Hoping for some decent gains.

Suspension:
Moton clubsports
Not sure on springs just yet
custom fabbed 28mm front bar. was good in stock class...dont know yet for STR
Plan to replace all the bushing but not a high priority.

Body:
Braille battery~ 7 lbs or so...very nice piece
Buddyclub seats and mounts

Trans:
Fresh rebuild with all new 2nd gear set. New OEM clutch

Been very fun piecing the car together...cant wait to drive it!!

Alright on to some questions

1. Tires.
Ordered a set or TRmotosports with 255 hankook's to start. Also plan to get a set of the 949 wheels with Toyo's. I have some questions on the Toyo's. I have loved them for the past 2 seasons on my ST car but have some doubts about the bigger sizes:
*Does the tread compound change as tread depth goes down....i seem to remember Glagola mentioning this in Peru but am not sure...what the deal?
*Anyone run the 245/35 R1R? I think the gearing improvement may be nice and would like to test against the larger hankooks.

2. Diff
Are the aftermarket units worth it....mainly the O.S. Giken. How does the behavior change compared to stock?

Looking forward to next season.... plan on running the Lincoln Pro/tour, Toledo Tour, Oscoda Pro and of course Nats

I've heard that the R1Rs are optimum between 15 and 30 runs.

15-30 runs after they are shaved or before?

I have run an unbalanced pulley on my civic and we run them on our 2 EP K-series engines with no troubles. T1-R crank pulley looks great and the car is a dedicated auto-x car so 100,000 mile reliability is not a big concern. Personally i think the weight savings is way worth it. my pulley on my civic was worth 2hp.

As far as wheels I just cant justify spending 4 times the price of the TR wheels on volks or SSR's. Looked into CCW but they are really not any lighter. I have run TR wheels on my civic (12.8lbs) and once borrowed a friends SSR (9.5lbs or so) and noticed no change.

What other 17x9 wheels are people going with other then the 949 and TR wheels?

949 is most popular to my knowledge... I got a set of used Volks.

They are good for a lot longer than that. Henry and I ran the SD Nat'l Tour and El Toro Pro on one set of tires. That included a practice session of about 15 or so runs before the SD Tour even started. And all the El Toro Pro runs.

And we started from full tread, as we did all year long. Have yet to shave an STR tire. We prefer to do that au natural.

It was my understanding that the Toyo's only had the good rubber for the outer couple of 32nd's of rubber then it changed its compound. Unlike the Hankook's or Kumho's that are the same rubber down to the cords...
