How would steering response or turn in be any different if you were able to achieve the same roll stiffness by just using springs? I've asked that question to a lot of people and haven't received a good response yet... Without having tried it, it seems like an all spring setup with the same roll stiffness of a spring/sway setup would feel very similar in terms of response and turn in.

Nmrando you should try it I think my shocks would hate me for running that much spring.

Newer setup:

We had a long 8-cone slalom at our last event, and I couldn't believe how hard my car would take a set with lower roll stiffness. I've never been able to slalom with that much grip using past setups. The response is little slower (and I mean only slightly) but the grip once it settled was awesome. The courses were point-and-shoot layouts and I managed to maintain high enough average speeds to snag 2nd PAX the first day and 1st PAX the second day. If only I could lay down a fast time within 3 runs.
Did you manage to do this on the same day to quantify the setup change? What I've felt is fast isn't always actually fast.

That's the reason I haven't tried it yet. Revalve + I'd need to machine stronger front top hats to accommodate more load being transmitted through the springs.

Unfortunately, no. These were just my observations from the "newer" setup I listed. It was strictly a butt-dyno kind of comparison to my past setup. We have another two-day event coming up with a long, fast slalom; maybe I'll swap back to my stiff roll setup between the two days.

Ok, so here's my dryer vent intake.

I don't own a dremel... after all, that would be too easy. So, I just bought some of the "RotoZIP" side cutting bits, slapped that puppy into my Ryobi cordless drill, and went for broke. As you can see, this is a stroke of absolute genius.

I made a change like this last year at the Wendover Pro... I let my co-driver talk me into softening the Gendron sway bar from full stiff to full soft so that the car would "turn in better" for the sweeper at the end of the course. At the time I had 900lb front and 780 rear spring rates. What was the result?

Oh, it turned in the sweeper. However, the transitions were terrible. The steering response was so much slower I started pelting cones left and right. Bottom line, switched the sway bar back to full stiff for the second day of competition and I got faster... by 1.2 seconds a side (not counting the cone penalties). Sure, now I had to downshift to 1st in the sweeper to get it to turn... but because it was a pro, the entire rest of the course was offsets and slaloms.

That being said, I might soften my bar 1 slot... just because it does feel "stiffer" now with the spherical bearing mounts.

Every notch stiffer I went on my setup cut time from the clock. Softest felt best and was slowest. I ran out of notches and have been meaning to upgrade to the solid bar. With that said, we had to soften compression in Houston because we were overloading the tires on the dusty/smooth surface so there definitely IS a limit.

Very cool Mike! Is the front stock opening to the box closed off or are you planning to do that?
