they should allow any tuning device in str thats not a stand alone. The 06+ can completly tune everything with flashpro why not allow every car have the same ability? It's a crappy, unfair rule that gives 06+ a advantage that could be avoided.

It is what it is though. Until they change it I'm stuck using my neo. Jeff evans is going to talk to the scca board and see what they say.
But AP1s have a longer 2nd gear, which give an advantage as far as rev-limiter speed is concerned.
So does that mean I should be allowed to put an AP1 tranny into my '06, because that transmission has longer gears, and I should be allowed to have that advantage?

Every car has its advantages and its disadvantages. Ultimately, its going to come down to the driver. Look at the nationals results again, an MX-5 was the quickest, and an AP1 with 200,000 miles placed 2nd. The AP1 was only a mild prep, it was ultimately the driver that made the difference.

6 of one, half dozen of the other.

Exactly, ever car is going to have a certain advantage and disadvantage. Drive what ya got

This is all about having fun at the end of the day, right?

Correct me if I'm wrong... not to take anything away from Jim, but imho, that cars setup was what made the difference. Gearing on both courses (especially East) favored an AP1.

If I recall, Jim's co-driver finished 5th and had never driven the car before... ever.

Any new on if anyone will be releasing new tires to compete with the kooks? I wouldn't think bridgstone would sit around and let hankook best up on them for to long. I'm going to order tires next month and don't want to buy another set of kooks if something "better" might be coming out real soon.

Well that's flawed as well...
I disagree. The point isn't MR2 Spyder versus S2000, or AP1 versus AP2. In fact, it's the exact opposite: writing rules with the narrow perspective of one specific car versus another can have unintended consequences on the rest of the class that will persist long after the two cars that prompted the original discussion are obsolete.

Open the engine management allowance in STR and every serious competitor, regardless of car, will take advantage of it. Congratulations -- you've just signifcantly increased everyone's cost of entry, and while the AP1 may be a little closer to the AP2, now the MX-5, MR2 Spyder, and other cars are now better off relative to the AP2 as well.

I was wondering about this as well but I think im just gonna go ahead and order the rs3's. If a new tire is supposed to come out in the spring there's usually news about it by now

Pushing...

Should have read "If you can't hold on to the tight line in a turn, you might as well pack up and go home."

I have no idea how that statement got rearranged ... and I posted it
