Sub 2600 would be nice I'd love go get in my car and be at 2700 with me in it but it would require running at 4 gallons of gas and another recaro SPG. I think on a big lot like blythville the car would fuel starve.
I think it depends car to car... One local lot is a huge, smooth, grippy, concrete lot and I haven't had an issue even when my gas gauge reads empty for a few runs in a row.
If you run less than half a tank it's just a matter of time (conditions) before you experience fuel starvation. IMO and experience since 2004.

I totally agree. I didn't have this problem before, but I started driving better and had this issue last year at a divisional event.

Then I will rephrase... in 2 years of running 2-3 events a month most months (6-8 runs per event per driver), and rarely if ever running more than 1/3 tank, mine has never starved even with co-drivers much faster than me who have gotten fuels starve out of other S2000's.... Maybe my particular 01 is a freak, maybe I've been really lucky, but I am going to enjoy my weight savings until I have reason to do otherwise

Last time the car was weighed it had the stock exhaust (now cut off, but still stock header/cat/resonator), and stock intake. The car also has the heavier Saner front bar. At that time it was at 2760 with 3/4 of fuel. Since then I now expect it to be around 2720-30 with the same fuel load.

That's a good way to quantify it. I too have average two or more events per month since Jan 2005 and many times with a co-driver. I have personally experienced it 2-3 times in a MY00, 1 time in current MY03, and one time in an MY08. I will still stick to it's just a matter of time before it happens. It is like a computer backup where until you lose a bunch of stuff you are not so caring to do a backup! I hope your luck is sustainable.

I too seem to have a freak AP1 and have never seen fuel starve. I forgot to check where my fuel was at a TnT 2 years ago and actually let it go down to 0 bars without ever hitting fuel starve. This was on street tires however, not hoosiers. I've had it at or just under 1/4th tank on Hoosiers with no issues.

I did, however, feel fuel starve mid sweeper in Ckit's car, and it was very abrupt. I thought it would feel sort of like a rev limiter hit, but it was much worse.

I'm in the process of the recently explored intake mod, and was wondering what purpose the massive box under the intake tube serves (bottom of the pic attached). It only has a small opening into the main intake chamber. Is it purely harmonics? Any reason (performance related) not to remove it and close that small opening?

Other than finding a way to brace that side of the box since the one bolt mount will be lost, it seems like a pretty simple task.

Marks_lude from my understanding it's just a sound tuning thing. You can block/cut it off if you see fit.

Edit- search on here for stock intake mods and you should find pictures of it blocked off

Look, as someone had already said... it's just a matter of time. The reason the car fuel starves has nothing to do with it being an AP1 or an AP2. There is no magic model year that does not fuel starve. It has to do with the gas tank design and the bucket around the fuel pump.

That being said... there is a trick to it... i.e. National (Tours) typically run clockwise one day and counter clockwise the last day? Maybe the other way around. Either way, you typically run a very similar course in reverse.

You will only fuel starve in an s2000 in a small left hand sweeper after offsets / slalom... or in a very long left hand sweeper. This is because fuel is sloshing around and out of the little bucket in the center of the tank. The sweeper immediately following the offsets keeps the fuel from re-entering the small little hole at the bottom right of the bucket.

I have personally fuel starved in 1st gear, LEFT hand sweepers, with half a tank of gas...

What does this mean? So, more than likely going clockwise, you can run 1/4 tank or less and be just fine (Assuming there aren't any left hand sweepers while going clockwise... it's possible).

However, on the second day, when you run the course counterclockwise... I personally wouldn't run less than 3/4 of a tank. It's just not worth the risk of fuel starving on your "Hero Run".

**EDIT** Here's a great thread with pictures showing what I'm talking about...

Just to be clear, when I said my 01 I meant it as in the 01 S2k that belongs to me, as opposed to model year 2001... I have noticed that some individual s2k's are more susceptible to fuel starve than others
