S2000 STR prep resource
I like to DD my race car. I stopped daily driving the CRX when I hurt my back and I get scared driving it around because it was becoming irreplaceable and the possibility getting hit in Atlanta is pretty high.
I put 48k on the CRX in 3 years of ownership and it was my daily for about 2 of those years.
Plus, you can spend the retarded amount of cash you'd spend on a rig and trailer on your race car.

Josh, with you just starting autocrossing, I would definitely make struts one of your latter things. That is a 2 for 1. As you are developing your skills, you are not wearing them out, plus it gives the S2K community time to figure out what seems to be one or two to go with.
I believe you will gain a lot more your 1st year or two spending your $ on driving schools (i.e. Evolution) and going to as many events as possible. I mean a ton of events... every weekend. And that cost a lot of $. In fact, I have been slacking on the number of events I go to and it is showing in a big way.
Luckily, we have 3 pretty active nearby regions so you should have an event almost every weekend with in a couple of hours. Also, schedule some time at some divisionals and national tours. It will have very good drivers there to see how you are progressing and you get that seat time on bigger courses... plus, it is a lot of fun.
Keep saving those $ and buy the no brainers that have a huge bang for the buck and let the higher dollar .1 improvements come later. Who knows... you might find that STR is to restrictive for you and just jump right in to SSM or EM.

my question is about how much are you all budgeting to spend on str? (not counting the price of the car)
Even if I could fund it, I sure as hell would not be towing the car. Part of the appeal for me with Auto-X is it's something that goes: wake up => drive to event => do event => go home/eat. I hate prep work. It's also a convertible sports car, why wouldn't you drive it to an event on a nice, sunny day?
I tow because it doesn't cost me anything more than the purchase price of a trailer. Makes it a lot easier for myself, the co-driver, and the dog to get to and from out of town events
Its kinda hard to fit all 3 of us in the Honda...

14 hours? That's it? Try 24 to Nebraska. (16 to Toledo/18 to GA)
I'm pondering actually selling my trailer and just driving the S2000 to events next year. When I calculate the costs... 11 mpg in the Titan or 25 in the S2000... those costs translate to mods. Figure the tow to Nebraska. Taking the S2000 out over the Titan, at today's gas prices, I'd save about $400. That $400 is just one event. Even locally, I'd save $21/event (*12 events... it adds up!). And then trailer maintenance on top of that...
However, I can sleep in my truck much more comfortably than the S2000.... and the Titan holds a metric **** ton of more 'stuff'.

(Ps: I found the forum ignore feature... couldn't find it earlier until it was pointed out to me. Thanks!)

We drove 20 hours in a stock S to Nebraska and it was not too bad as long as you stop and stretch now and then. However, driving that far in an STR prepped car would be a different experience. What springs are you planning on using, at least double or more the rate of stock?
I'm willing to give it a shot.

My car has been driven all over the midwest with 800+lb springs and its not much worse riding than stock.
Gas mileage with the trailer was ~20mpg - put the header and Berk cat on and it went up to 24mpg. Always same gas (BP 93) and running near 75mph.
