If that was the case, wouldn't the Appendix A listing for STR say:

Honda S2000 00-03
Honda S2000 04-09
Honda S2000 CR 08-09

Rather than

Honda S2000

?

I don't ever recall Honda selling a "S2000 AP1" just a S2000 and a S2000 CR, and I'd call the CR a trim level, otherwise they wouldn't be legal in Stock class due to production numbers.

IMO, I don't see it like that. AP1 and AP2 are chassis code designations, they are both still S2000 "model" vehicles.

While personally I do agree with you here, The wording in the rules never suggests to classify them as separate models.

To the CR removing its wing and lip, I do not see why that could not happen for the lip. They are simply putting on a stock AP2 bumper. The wing on the other hand is debatable because they are not adding anything on the back end and the allowance does not cover a trunk swap.

*Is there a separate wing removal rule? I will have to go look that up later.

Went to a PCA event at El Toro (similar to lincoln grip) and took top STR time beating Ken Motonishi in his STR MX5 (2009 class winner) by 3 tenths. If i were continuing development I still think the shocks should be able to handle 750/650 no problem. I would of course add more front camber but only to maybe 2.5º. My penske 8300 shocks made by Guy Ankeny at Ankeny Racing Enterprises will be arriving mid week so I thought i would throw this setup in the prep resource for those who maybe interested in a cheap yet effective way to be competitive in STR.
Looks like fun Jonathan, glad to see your in STR business. Nice job on the initial setup. More STR competition! It's going to be crazy next year at nationals. I predict 75-100 STR entrants.

You shouldn't be beating up on those MX-5s so hard though, we do want them to show up next season. I also know the MR-2 Spyder is starting to take off in various corners of the country. There will be one here in AZ that will start running within a month or so. BTW more people are buying S2000s here as well, they're coming from all directions.

Yessir:

Factory rub strips, emblems, mud flaps, bolt-on front valance lips/
spoilers, and fog lights (except those integral to a headlight or turn
signal) may be removed. Rear wings may be removed so long as the
vehicle retains any federally-mandated third brake light.

Good information, I'm looking to do a budget STR build for next year and this is helpful. Only thing I'd say is there are probably less expensive options then a mugen ap2 catback. I see the one for sale at King for $1900, are you referring to something else?

I believe that's the only one, mugen ap2 catback that is.
You can definitely go with a less expensive catback such as the T1R EM single or the Gotuning Greddy SE Elite single, both for $1k or less. The mugen ap2 is a dual tho, weighing in at around 25lbs and is a 60mm.

Cut the exhaust in front of the muffler split and install a turn-down. Cuts weight and you stay below dB limits, though it does get boomy inside the cabin.
