I used to be an AP1 owner and then hop over to the STI community for a short while, now I want another S...
I have been looking for an 06 & up AP2 S2000 recently and noticed that the price has gone up significantly.
What is one expect to pay to get a clean 06 & up S2k now?
Is VSA a valuable tool to have in S2000? (I think i will keep this next S2000 for a long time)
Besides the VSA, what is the main difference between 04&05, and 06&up?
When will be a better time to look for S2000? For the price right now, I can get a clean E46 M3...

It's the just the starting of the spring/summer season so now is not the greatest time to look unless you are on the East coast. If you really want an optimal time, check out the prices in November/December/January.
Seems odd to cross shop a S2000 with an M3 - one is a sports coupe, the other is a roadster. If you haven't decided on what you really want yet, take a few test drives. The cars are very different from each other. The M3 is just like any other German sports car, the S2000 is really a special package that doesn't really have a direct competitor. It should be pretty obvious after a test drive which direction you want to go.

Miata? Soltise? Z4? There are cars similar to the S2000 believe it or not.
Having said that, I'm hoping to pick up an s2000 of my own in the next few weeks.

And yes, there are plenty of German cars which are packaged just like the BMW M3. Audi S4/S5, Mercedes Black series. They are all heavy, luxo-cruisers built for the autobahn. There are differences between them, but not as dramatic as say, the difference between the S2000 and the Miata.
My opinion of course. I never said the S2000 was God's gift to motoring, it stands on it's own with it's own flaws.

I disagree, the S2000 is god's gift to motoring
I'm in the exact same boat as you so I know how you feel. I had a fairly well simple setup ap2. Sold it back in October. I'm driving an 06 Sti right now and while the car is fun it isn't an s2000 and I have a strong desire to get back in one. I just put some coilovers on the Sti hoping that would make the car a lot more enjoyable and while it's better than the springs that came off it wasn't a dramatic jump. I'm hoping to get another s2k sometime in the next year.
