What do you guys think of this S2K? I know it's only one picture but judging by the year, miles, color, etc would you say $18,500 is a fair price? I spent an hour talking to the guy over the phone. He told me everything that was wrong with it; small scratches on the bottom left of the bumper from scraping, and no soft top boot-cover. He is a 65 year old man that has had the car garage kept. Carfax is clean.

WHAT DO I DO?!

Looking to get into my first S2000. This one is so so clean: http://www.torringtonhyundai.com/Veh...-CT/1068308033 . but they are asking way too much for a 2004. Should I make a reasonable offer and see if they bite? What do you think it is worth?

Thanks

Assuming the car is in 'excellent' condition, the price is not terribly high. I would say the car is worth around $18,000 IF it's in very good condition with a very good history. The mileage is very low for a car from 2004.

The problem is that determining how it was handled is difficult when you're buying from a dealer.

Looking at a 2007 LBP w/ 35K on it. All body panels have the correct vin tag on them and the car is in excellent condition. The dealer has the car listed at $20850

I'm very seriously considering making an offer at $16,500.00. I would think I'm going to end up paying in the low 17,000 range for it though.

What does everyone think about this price? Where should my absolute max for this car be? Thanks

If you get that car for 17,000, that's a steal. At 20,850 I think the car is priced a tad low. They might not budge mutch, but an offer of 16,500 is really low. I think 07s go in the low/mid 20s.

Your offer is way too low, the dealer absolutely would not agree to it. The dealers price is actually pretty good as is assuming the car checks out. Realistically the lowest they might accept would be $19,000. Good luck.

In Kentucky, previous owners information has to be given from the dealer. After I called, they didn't have the previous owner's info b/c he was from TN. However, they did tell me they got the car from a whole seller. Like I said, I will begin at $16.5K which I'm sure they wont be able to do but that is my starting point. Where should my absolute maximum be?

For an 07 with those miles, I'd be willing to pay 20,000, or even their asking price. An 08 with similar mileage goes for 23/24.

I guess these weren't really the replies I was looking for. Is their any reason not to start with offering them 17K? Like I said the worse they can say is no right? Also, I've bought a few used cars before and usually dealers mark up the price quite a bit. Is their any reason why this dealership may be starting at this price? Doing a quick google search on used car buying shows a good rule of thumb is that dealers will mark up anywhere from $1000 to $2000 for each $10K of car.

I've found a lot of dealers are at close to their bottom price online. I think if you can get the car in the teens, be it high 19s, then you're doing great.
