I will probably check out a couple when I get back from vacation. There are two that I might check out. There is an 05' with 23,000 miles for 17k and a 07 with 16,000 miles for 22k. Which one do you guys think is a better deal?

Hey guys, I have been lurking these forums for a while and I feel like I already know a few things about the S2k just from the TONS of information on this site.

I go to class with a guy who is selling his S2000 asking for $9,500. I think it is a 200 or a 2001, with about 100k miles on it. He has told me of the problems with it, he just had to replace his thermostat and the soft top has some tears in it. He seems like a really upfront guy and, well, I'm in all of the same classes with him for about 1.5 more years, so I don't think he is trying to rip me off on it.

Plus I will definintely compression test it before I buy it, and I will listen closely for ticks, etc. We could prob do that at school someday after class...I have access to a garage and lift for checking it out. I love being in an automotive program

I have a couple questions for you guys...if the soft top needs replacement, how much do they normally run? And is it possible to repair one with a few decent sized tears on it?

Also, one thing that is kind of an eye opener is all of the "1st to 2nd gear grinding" posts I have seen on here. What is the deal with that? When I go to drive this car, is it going to be an obvious thing to spot, or is it really subtle and something that can be easily overlooked?

Also, I'm not sure if the timing belt has been done yet. Bleh that will be fun...

I guess I'm just trying to get some opinions from you guys as this is going to be my first "expensive-ish" car.

My apologies if this should be in the "should I buy this used S2000" thread. Thanks guys!

I can guarantee you that the timing belt has not been replaced: it has a timing chain. ;-)

hread.
That sounds like a great deal for the other guy.

Soft tops are $1k+ installed. You're better off replacing it.

http://img9.imageshack.us/gal.php?g=86802174.jpg

found this 02 stolen recovery s2k with 120k, a missing diff. and some other parts, dirty interior, and broken seat,
however, it is perfect for me because i only need the chassis, no frame damage, no salvage title (Reason i need a no damage chassis? check this thread out, https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.ph...ic=755288&hl=)

the seller want to sell it at around USD$6000, but the price is negotiable
also comes with the 02 OEM glass softtop (perfect!!!)
decided to strip the car and do a complete swap ( i think my silver S has a broken CV joint, so swap it too)
i may rebuild the 120k engine and sell it, also sell my straightened but with some panels damaged chasis at a bargain price.

so...what you guys think? is it very costy to do a swap? or im just a idiot ?

dont do it. u can find stolen recovery cars with missing cosmetics such as: seats, fenders, bumpers, lights etc.. they usually go for 5k with a lot less miles. ive seen people get stolen recoveries for 4k with about 20l miles on this forum. its actually for sale. just keep looking i.m.o
