I am looking to buy an '01 with 68000 miles in the Ohio area for $11700. It is silver stone / red. Here is a full list of what I wrote in another thread:

I probably would have bought it right there and then but the seller didn't have a notarized title.

Here was what I noticed and perhaps you all can give you opinions of what I noticed.

The car had a pretty extensive maintenance record (at least this owner). He drove it everyday to and from work which was less than a mile both ways. It is still very stock minus a K&N air filter and a cheap aftermarket head unit.

Of the things that I noticed wrong:
1. the rear tires needed replaced badly, the front times not so much
2. he replaced the convertible top 18 months ago (with documentation) and whoever did the job separated the roll hoops. They were then glued together which as most of you will know is starting to come apart and look really bad.
3. the red leather seats show quite a bit of wear, more then what I really expected
4. the red interior carpet showed quite a bit of wear. The carpet looked very thin to the point the that black rubber was beginning to wear through. On the driver side there looks like there is a jerry-rigged floor mat holder which results in a cut in the carpet.
5. mechanically, the car was sound. The previous owner enjoyed driving but he never raced it (if you met the guy you see why).
6. The exterior was pretty normal for a 9 year old car. There were some nicks and blemishes. The angled pieces of body work right in front of the rear tires near the door panels are sloppy and about to fall off (on both sides). On the front bumper, there were several scratches and scraps depicting pretty aggressive curb rash.
7. A big concern was when the car started moving in 1st gear or in reverse at low RPM the gear shift and transmission would shudder rather violently. It wasn't a start at 2k rpm it was much lower almost like you were slowly creeping the car forward. It really showed itself more when I made the same creeping start in reverse. I could have been really just looking for anything wrong. Anyone have any experience with this? Is this common?
8. Finally the price. I got him to a good price ($11700) but considering I didn't come home with it and I started thinking about it. I double checked Edmunds.com, Nada.com and Kbb.com and within a few hundred dollars all of them basically told me I was paying $1000 too much for the car in its condition. Like I previously posted, the car has around 67000 miles. Am I correct in my assumptions that I should be paying less?

Thanks for all the responses. I look forward to your feedback!

Hello everyone! Trying to purchase my first s2000 and just wanted some advice. Currently looking at a 2008 Berlina Black with black/red interior and 16700 miles, excellent condition. The dealer asking price is $26,700. What do you guys think? Any help would definitely be appreciated! Thanks!

Hi everyone, I've been patiently waiting around for the last several months for a decently priced S2000 to pop up in my area and I've got my sights on several right now. I'd prefer to have an AP2 but the average prices seem to be steep for me so here are 3 Ap1s that I've found:

1. Black 2002 w/ 42,500 miles. Descriptions say that it is flawless and asking price is $13000

2. Black 2003 w/ about 20K miles, Descriptions say that it is flawless as well. Asking price is $15000 or best offer.

3. A Silver 2003 w/ about 11k miles. Descriptions say that it is again flawless. Asking price is $16900.

I have yet to look at any of them, though I plan on looking at at least one or two of them this weekend. This will be my first "very own" car and my price range is around $13-16k. In that range, most of the used ones seem to be have about 60-80k miles on them and so how many more years could I typically expect to get out of them considering that I am a pretty tame driver that doesn't really rack up that much miles every year? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Ohnani, there is a thread listing s2000s with over 100k miles and 200k miles. It's a Honda so you should be able to drive the piss out of it with proper maintenance. I also asked the same question.

Ohnani, to give you an idea, i picked up a really good condition MY00 ssm/red-black with 32k for 12.5k in february. None of those cars are a great deal. IMO i wouldnt pay over 14k for an ap1, unless it is in absolutely perfect condition w/less than 15k miles. Even then 17 is definitly a stretch. If your looking to spend that much pick up an ap2. Then again, im judging these cars sight unseen, so its up to you to make the descision in the end.

22K? They have been running it on eBay for weeks @ 24K without a single bid.

CarFax shows it was a lease, dealership says it was a CEO car.

It has 2 new rear tires. Fronts are still original.
Runs and drives well.
Condition is 98%. Very little interior wear.
Paint is perfect.
Body is perfect, not even a door ding.
Top is good.
No XM.

Comes with a 30 day/1000 mile "anything goes wrong we pay half to make it right" warranty.

Opinions?

EDIT: URL Updated.
EDIT2: Verified that it was a single party lease. Don't ask how.

I think it looks solid but I would try to work them down to around 20,500k to match up with edmunds and nada pricing.

Edmunds and NAPA don't mean crap!
Dealers go by auction price for there area and right now they are higher then Edmunds and Napa.
