-Official- Is this car worth it thread - vol. 2
Hi everyone,
I apologize if I am posting this in a wrong section, but I was wondering if I can get a sense this deal I am thinking about pushing myself into. It is 07' S2000 in white. Looks clean, the seller claims no bodywork was performed but there is a dent about a size of 1/2 quarter and the roof needs replacing. The seller claims that color is in demand and therefore he thinks he can charge $22,000 for it.
I did a quick check and it seems like it costs about $2,000 to repair the dent & get a new roof. Am I getting a good deal or should I wait for the next potential?
Thanks for the help in advance.

IMO nothing about that car is a "deal." How many owners? Where is the dent? Are you _sure_ there was no body work done? If you don't feel good about it, just start the search again. It took me a while to find my 06 LBP but I found an excellent example at a great price. It's worth the wait to get exactly what you want with no regrets. Have you checked cars.com? It's where I found mine; they tend to have good stock.
If he was really confident in a $2k quote for the work it needs, he'd likely just get it done and mark the price of the car back up. It's much easier to sell a car when a quality repair has already been performed and documented. He hasn't done that, which means he knows the repair will be much more costly (or consist of sub-par work and obvious upon inspection). Walk away, you'll find something better.
So I'm considering purchasing a 2003 Honda S2000 (AP1). Car has around 112K miles. Owner says he's the original and always maintained it. But he said he always filled it up with regular gas even though the manual states that it needs 91. The owner was also trying to justify the lower grade fuel by using synthetic oil. Could that cause a problem? Also it still has the original clutch. He also said that the roof might need to be replaced soon out of age but doesn't leak. I love the car and am making excuses to myself to justify buying it. But at the same time I have a reliable vehicle now and simply cannot afford car problems. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Regardless of whether the fuel grade would cause health problems to the car, this alone is a legitimate signal that the owner, who has driven it for so many miles, has not properly maintained the car (in general, which is bad...). Also, the roof needs to be replaced...I would let it pass to be honest.
He sounds like a very honest person though, enough to mention the fuel grade he has been using.

Is a 2007, 2 owner, silver s2000 with <10k miles, worth 25K - looks clean from pics?

i would pass. the soft top replacement is gonna cost over a 1000 and if you wanna hardtop it will be $2-3500 depending on if you want OEM or not. If he has never replaced the clutch then its a good chance you may need to do that soon also which will be a grand or more with labor..the clutch may still last a while depending on how he drove it but being that its 11 years old with 112K miles on it..chances are its going soon.
dont know how the car handles regular gas also..im sure the ECU adjusts but who knows..if he has been doing it since 2003 with no problems then i guess its fine
