Also keep in mind just because VIN stickers are in place does not mean the car was not involved in an accident or had any type of bodywork. I've seen a few cars that had all the VIN tags yet they obviously had some bodywork done.

My 02 was totaled due to undercarriage damage yet all the body panels have their VIN stickers and are as virgin as it gets on the outside. Next time you go to look at one of these cars, bring someone with more experience to inspect the cars for you.

Unfortunately I don't have anyone that I know that would be any better than me. As an alternative perhaps I can take it to a Honda dealership and have them inspect it...

Post in your regional forum and ask for recommendations to a good local shop that specializes in S2000s. Dealerships vary in ability greatly. It's a total crapshoot if you even get one that has a tech on hand who has even worked on an S2000, depending on where you are.

Alternatively, someone in your local forum who has a lot of personal experience with S2000s might be willing to help you inspect it. But I would still suggest it is best to find a good shop to do a complete PPI. You are going to want to have someone you trust doing the work on it anyway if you can't do it all yourself. May as well find the best sources now rather than later. May never need it, but still good to have.

Best wishes.

I'm also looking at a 2006 LBP with 77K miles on it. Seller is asking $18k obo.

What do you guys think is a reasonable offer for this car?

That wasn't a generic KBB link I provided. It was one for the exact car you're looking at and it provided an average amount of $16,262 for a 2007 with 77k miles.

Do you really think the one you linked is worth an additional $1800? That decision is entirely up to you. Personally I would not pay $18k. $15-16k max.

We are on the same page. I don't feel that it is worth $18k, but wanted to make sure it didn't seem like a low ball offer if I come in at around $15k (starting).

Anyone got some thoughts on this car?
http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-s...78841595&Log=0

Hard to tell all this from the photos but here are the CONS:
1. The calipers are painted orange
2. There are plugged holes (with rubber) on the trunk from a previous wing
3. There is a spray painted black wing spoiler on the trunk
4. Below the crease on the rear bumper is also spray painted black - complete with drip marks
5. Spare wheel is missing
6. Spare wheel cover trunk liner is missing
7. 3 different tires
8. Soft top is pretty badly worn around the frame bars
9. Mismatched center caps

PROS:
1. Blue
2. Drives good
3. Doesn't appear to have had functional mods (just questionably poor taste aesthetics)
4. < 50K miles
5. Price?

I would avoid that car personally. It's been for sale on Autotrader for nearly six months now. It was initially listed for sale by the Korum Automotive Group and last week they dropped the price in their listing to $21999. That Infiniti dealership that is listing it now must have taken notice of the price drop and decided to buy it for themselves thinking that Korum must have been doing something wrong for not being able to sell it in the normal $23-25k range for 08-09's. They aren't going to have any luck either. It's not selling for many reasons.

Carfax shows three owners over the last five years. Unfortunately it just feels like an S2000 that fell through the cracks and had owners that didn't really appreciate it all that much. Seeing all those cheesy mods leads me to believe that some kid owned this car at one time. Likely purchased for him by his parents and probably dogged the shit out of it. Of course this is all speculation on my part but I would be looking for near perfection and a one owner car if I'm spending $23-25k on a used S2000.
