Hello All --

Shopping for my first S2K. I'm looking for an AP2, particularly a 2006-2009 (I'd like the option of doing a tune down the line if I want to). I've found a one-owner 2006, Suzuka blue (matching interior), 35K miles, for $17K. The Carfax shows one minor accident and the owner said he was rear-ended just after buying the car (in 2006), and the bumper was replaced because the damage impacted the styrofoam. He had it replaced under insurance and no accidents or problems since. The driver's seat has some scratches and wear, but no holes. There are some rock chips on the front (not bad -- looks really good in pictures from 10 feet), and the bottom of the front lip probably needs to be resprayed. The top has one little spot of wear, and the owner said he had it repaired and it has never leaked, etc. It's always been garage kept.

$17K -- fair deal for this or keep looking? It seems like a good deal for the year and miles, but if it's not the right deal, I'll keep looking.
Might be a good deal - can you check to see if any of the rear body panels were replaced or repaired? But that might not matter to you, given the price. When you say "matching interior", only the seats and carpet were blue in the 2006 - everything else should be black.
Yes, sorry, the seats and carpet are blue but everything else is black. I can ask him about the body panels, but he's an old guy and I don't know if he'll understand what to take pictures of re vin tags, etc... he's been very upfront about sending me pictures of requested things though. He's about 3 hours away so I can't easily see it in person. If the consensus is that it's a good deal, I'm planning to go see it next weekend and bring cash to make the deal and drive it home.
Is the title clean, i.e., not a salvage or rebuilt title as a result of the rear end accident? Seems like it is worth a look though. Good luck!
No, it's a clean title, not salvage, and Carfax lists it as a "minor accident." According to the seller, the damage wasn't bad, it was "barely tapped" but required replacement because the bumper was "punctured." From the pictures, the repair looks good, etc. I think it's at least a reasonable deal for a one-owner car, but I'm always glad to get a second opinion. Thanks!

Bump..

What about this MY05's worth??

The owner tells me:
Rebuilt engine due to bent valve and from the 2nd owner possibly mishitting.
3rd owner, bought Honda certified used in 2008 with 60k miles.
Most (if not all) maintenance records.

I just emailed him and offered $10.5k because high mileage, has been questionably rebuilt, blown shocks ($400 for a pair) and front bumper damage ($400-500 for paint and another $300 for the bumper or $200 if repaired..or around $700-800 total for bumper painted).

Is my $10.5k offer a lowball? lol

Never thought I'd be eyeing an S2k of this price, but one has really caught my eye as *perfect* despite the steep asking price.

White AP1 (2002)
18k miles, stock, 1 owner
*Mint* condition
Fully red interior

This car has everything I want. 1 owner, no accidents, mint, white/red interior. Owner knows it's worth many dollars. He wants 23k and when I spoke to him on the phone he told me he was firm on the price at the moment. Am I crazy for entertaining the idea of 23k on this car?

No you are not crazy. Of course you need to see the car first and hopefully service records too. "Mint" is one of those highly subjective terms, like "tasteful mods" for example.

The bottom line is that these days he can probably get that amount, or very close to it. The car is worth whatever somebody is willing to pay for it, and 23K really isn't a lot of money to the serious shopper who will want exactly this car.

Thanks for reaffirming my suspicions. I saw it in person and other than a few very small rock chips on the front bumper, the car indeed looks showroom new. I have the cash, I'm just wondering if I should take the leap or not. My only concern at this point is that I wouldn't want to drive it in order to preserve it, and I want an s2k to enjoy, not be a garage queen

That makes sense. This one sounds more appropriate for a collector type that wouldn't want to drive it too much. You can certainly find a nice S2K for around $18K that would probably suit you fine.

Yeah, I agree. This is my dream S2k but I suspect I would probably feel guilty every time I drove it, and I don't want that. I might offer him a bit less and see if he jumps at the idea of a quick, easy cash sale.
