S2ki,

n00b here looking for some advice.

I've owned a 2008 Fit since July of 2011 and have put 20k miles on it (its sitting around 70k as a whole), maintained it and have always driven it with some enthusiasm, but never dropped the clutch, done anything crazy, etc. I've always understood its a Fit and MPG are its primary focus, so I've focused on that as well.

That said, I've been looking to cross over into an AP1/AP2 for the last few months and I was recently offered this car in trade:

http://www.jdmchicago.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30682

I vowed I would never own another car that has already been modified, especially when I consider that in the ad itself the dude posts this picture:

Now don't get me wrong, I will drive this car hard, track days, autox, etc., but for the time being, it will also be my daily.

What do you guys say?

Hi guys,

Inexperienced car guy looking at getting an S2000 and I came across this one, the problem is that it's in South Carolina and I live in Los Angeles so I'd have to pay $800 to have it shipped out just to test drive, but I was wondering if that would be worth it: http://www.carmax.com/enUS/view-car/...d=A1SD10072013

Is this car worth the $20,000 they are asking for it? I like CarMax because of the 5 day return policy and 30 days of warranty.

Maybe someone who lives there can help me check it out?

Thanks!

I'd be willing to check it out for you but I believe Carmax prices are non-negoiable and that is a very high price for that car, in my opinion.
Let me know if you end up still interested and serious about it, I can help you out.

Edit: PM if interested, I don't read this thread often.

Thanks for the offer - seems it went already, though.

I had one more car in mind and was wondering if you guys think this would be worth the money they are asking: http://bit.ly/GMLl5q

$27,995 for a 2009 - seems a bit overpriced of course so I'll have to negotiate with them, but how much is it really worth?

I'd say yes on 2009, since I'm sure they would come down some when shown the green. I would be really tempted if my '06 didn't have only 27k miles.

I paid $27K for my 2009 Rio Yellow with 31K miles a year and a half ago. They started at $33k. Big dealer. They had it for a few months and was not selling on eBay. The reserve they wanted was just nuts. I told them that and got them to come down.

Anyway, it was exactly the car I wanted. One owner. Essentially brand new. (Found out the original owner had cardiac issues and had to sell-found the paperwork in the secret compartment!)
It was worth it for me, I would do it again.

That 09 GPW is junk.

All of the fenders are rolled/flared and one of the quarter panel looks to be buckled in.

Thanks. Do you think it'd be worth trying to get the car price dropped a lot because of those issues and then getting it fixed myself (checking with body shop how much that would cost and having them reduce because of that)?

Front fenders are easy to replace as they just unbolt and you bolt in the new one. But there is no easy fix to the rear quarter panels. Its going to be very labor intensive = expensive however you look at it. If you can have them bring the price below 20k its worth checking the car out in person otherwise avoid it at all costs.

Personally, I wouldn't waste my time on this car. There are plenty of clean/unmolested examples out there. Especially at that price range.

Take your time and don't rush into buying one. If possible, ask an s2000 owner to check the car(s) out in person and give you his opinions on it.
