Thanks for the heads up. Unfortunately, the seller isn't very responsive when it comes to answering questions. The sad part is, I'm sure he'll sell it to some naive kid without a problem.

true. radiator and thermostat replacement might indicate an overheat at some point which can definitely cause damage. could have also been an accident but then it would most likely just be the radiator that was replaced.

From what the told me briefly, he brought the car to his mechanic, and he said that the car needed it's radiator and thermostat replaced. The seller doesn't have any maintenance records available and is hesitant to answer my questions. I understand he might have others inquiring about the car as well so that may be a reason, but this may also be an indication to pass on the vehicle, even just based on first impressions.

Thanks for all the help 2000ths.

**UPDATE : He told me the car was overheating and he told his mechanic to replace everything required.

Pass on the car?

Sup guys I was in the market for an s2k and had a couple of extreme cars to choose from and needed some help in choosing which one or if I should be getting either one at all. I am looking for a commuter for about the next two years. I have one in the area that is a 2001, salvaged with 80k miles on it and had a fire in the engine compartment that was fixed by a professional shop (not a dealer), then it got sold to the second owner. He drove it for 4 years without any more problems and is asking $8,900 for it. The second option is this other 2001 s2k in the area that has 167k miles on it with a clean title and no modifications asking $10k. What im looking to get out of the car im going to buy is for it to last me about 70k more miles and be reliable through the winter and 500 mile weekend trips ( I live on the Cali coast so no snow).

I have been looking for about a month now and both cars just sold yesterday unfortunately. I dont think im going to find a s2k in my area under 10k, they are in super high demand, I even found post on craiglists that said there willing to pay 15k for a s2k with up to 120k miles and a AP1 so I cant compete with that right now, I think ima just look for another car.

Yeah your going to get a very high mileage S2000 or one with damage or a history for your price range. Better to keep saving until you can afford one.

ha! i called it on the overheat. really depends on the circumstances but an overheat can definitely cause damage to the engine. unless you are really feeling this car or are desperate i might wait for another one.
